More from Heather Knight: "Nat Sciver and Brunt started us off brilliantly with the ball. We're learning lots as a side, we've got a lot of experience but also trying to add to the team as we've seen with the debuts we've had recently.

"We want to create a bigger squad of fast bowlers in particular that we can bring in when we need to rotate players and depending on conditions, so we will see some changes in the next game."

England captain and Player of the Match Heather Knight on Sky Sports: "We talked as a group about how to approach batting on slower wickets and how to get 250 on them. We fell a bit short today but it was tough out there. It wasn't my most fluent innings but having set batters was the key and Katherine Brunt was brilliant sticking with me.

"We probably wanted 10 or 20 more runs. We lost wickets in clusters and it's a tricky wicket to start on, as a batter you had to hide your ego a bit and just stay there and rotate the strike. You had to be really disciplined about choosing which balls to attack."

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine on Sky Sports: "We got very close there in the end, it just goes to show the deeper we take the game, the closer we can get. I'm really proud of that effort but we've got a lot to improve on going forward.

"We thought 250 was par, it was a pretty sedate wicket and a fast outfield so we were happy to restrict them to that. But we've seen the damage that our lower order can do if they're given the chance, so if we can get to the 30 over mark with more wickets in hand, it will be game on.

"There are plenty of positives to take from today. What's pleasing about this group is we show a lot of resilience.

"It's been fantastic to have Lea Tahuhu back, she was brilliant with both bat and ball."

England will want to score 260-270 minimum if they bat first in the next game. Only Heather Knight went on to make the most of her start today so they'll want someone else to step up and make a score.

Heather Knight said she's going to look to rotate the bowlers, so we may see someone like Tash Farrant coming in but it's such a big opportunity for players to come in and make a claim for their place at the World Cup.

Let's not forget the match-winning knock from England skipper Heather Knight. She scored 89 from 107 balls on a pitch which turned out to be quite tough for the batters.

What's encouraging about Charlie Dean is she is a genuine off spinner, she always wants to spin the ball. She looked at home, she had a presence. Yes she was expensive, but it's her debut and there were nerves flying around.

She has waited for this opportunity for a long time and I'm sure she will have wanted to perform better but she has that England number now and no one can take that from her.

And after taking a bit of punishment, debutant Charlie Dean also took her first wicket in international cricket.

So there we have it - it's first blood to England in this five-match ODI series. It was a good all-round bowling display with two wickets apiece from Freya Davies, Nat Sciver and Sophie Ecclestone,,,
