Katherine Brunt set this innings up with that spell at the start. I would be content if I were Brunt, even if she'd not taken a wicket, because she's done the job for her team.

    Rowe lbw b Brunt 1 (NZ 132-7)

Katherine Brunt takes her first wicket of the match! Hannah Rowe is rooted in the crease and is struck on the pads. The umpire's finger goes straight up. Plumb as you like.

Satterthwaite just watches on as she runs out of batting partners.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Satterthwaitepublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

Satterthwaite has her fifty! She's batted well but her contribution will make little difference to the overall score, unfortunately.

  4. NZ 128-6published at 34 overs

Despite the reversed lbw decision, Sophie Ecclestone has once again been on the money. How often have we said that in international cricket?

  5. Not outpublished at 33.5 overs

Hannah Rowe can breath a sigh of relief - it's missing the stumps.

This is going to be close.

  7. New Zealand reviewpublished at 33.4 overs

    128-6

Ecclestone may have her third as Hannah Rowe is given lbw. New Zealand review. My initial reaction was it's going down leg. Umpire's call?

Katherine Brunt concedes her first run in her fifth over.

  9. NZ 127-6published at 33 overs

Would you believe it? Katherine Brunt has FINALLY conceded a run as Satterthwaite takes one.

There's another run out chance as New Zealand look for a quick single, Amy Jones has a shy at the bowler's end and Hannah Rowe would have been gone. She's not even in the frame.

And how often it is that it's Sophie Ecclestone who changes it!

It's funny how often a game of cricket can change. Devine and Satterthwaite were cruising along, looking as happy as can be, and all of a sudden the game has been flipped on its head.

  12. Eng 124-6published at 32 overs

Oohs and ahhs from England's fielders but new batter Hannah Rowe confidently defends the hat-trick ball into the leg side.

Two wickets in the over for Sophie Ecclestone as her team edge closer towards a 1-0 lead in the first of this five-match series.

It's the quicker one from Ecclestone. It just goes straight on and Brooke Halliday has absolutely no answer.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 31.5 overs

    Halliday 0 (NZ 124-6)

Brooke Halliday goes first ball! Sophie Ecclestone is on a hat-trick!!

England's star spinner darts it in and Halliday, on the back foot, watches it crash into her stumps.

The problem for New Zealand now is that England can apply pressure at the other end. For all Satterthwaite's elegance and skill, she can't do it all by herself.

Freya Davies barely had to move. It's not the prized wicket of Amy Satterthwaite but it's a big one nonetheless.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 31,4 overs

    Martin c Davies b Ecclestone 9 (NZ 124-5)

Gone! Katey Martin played a couple of nice sweep shots but this time she top edges and Freya Davies takes the simplest of catches at short fine leg.

The task has got a whole lot harder for New Zealand now.

  18. NZ 118-4published at 31 overs

Martin is not afraid to play her shots as she latches onto a wide delivery from Cross with Ecclestone sweeping up on the boundary.

Sattherthwaite misses out on a full toss to end the over.

New Zealand need 124 runs from 19 overs with six wickets remaining. Doable but it will take some getting.

  19. Postpublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 16 September 2021

Satterthwaite should really have been run out earlier...

  20. NZ 115-4published at 30 overs

    Target 242

Satterthwaite edges past Amy Jones and the ball races down towards the third man boundary for four.

Martin looks to play a scoop shot which is poorly executed, deflecting off bat then pad and looping over Jones behind the stumps. Fortunate!
