A worrying trend for England ahead of the World Cup in New Zealand in March.

Sides around the world will know that stat, and will no doubt be looking to capitalise on it should they win the toss.

England won't be able to defend their trophy purely by defending. They'll have to find a way to win either way round.

England have batted first four times in their ODIs this year, dating back to the series in New Zealand in March. They've been bowled out in all four of them. Had it not been for that excellent knock from Danni Wyatt, and her record-breaking partnership with Tash Farrant, England could be in a much, much stickier position.

It's scarcely believable that after 78 ODIs, this is only Danni Wyatt's second ODI fifty. She has been up and down the order quite a lot and in and out of the side, which explains a lot of that inconsistency.

An England-record 10th wicket stand - 51 in 8.1 overs - between Danni Wyatt and Tash Farrant has hauled England up to 197, though, and given them a chance.

Wyatt also brought up her second ODI half-century in the process too.

Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone and Kate Cross all then fell in quick succession as England struggling to put together any telling partnerships.

Those three wickets left England 146-9, after just 35.2 overs.

Danni Wyatt - coming in at seven, and playing her first ODI of the summer - and Lauren Winfield-Hill steadied the ship slightly, putting on 33 for the sixth wicket, before this moment of chaos.

Who was at fault? We'll let you decide.

Straight off the back of the powerplay England lost captain Heather Knight, vice-captain Nat Sciver and wicketkeeper Amy Jones in the space of 22 balls, for just nine runs.

Sophia Dunkley fell not long after, as England slipped to 85-5.

England started pretty well, working their way to 59-1 at the end of the 10-over powerplay.

Tammy Beaumont was the only wicket to fall, as she was bowled looking to leave, after hitting Sophie Devine for three fours earlier in the over.

New Zealand bowler Hannah Rowe, who took 3-41, on Sky Sports: "We would definitely have taken at the start of the day. It was a good performance from our bowlers, but we are disappointed with that last-wicket stand. When we had them five down we could have really taken the game away from them but we're still happy chasing 198.

"I've been trying to really work on my length, and hitting it hard, so it is nice to see it working well today. I'm trying to find that consistency."

Tash Farrant's 22 is the joint-highest score by an England number 11 in ODIs.

There were definitely some soft dismissals for England. But the wicket balls New Zealand bowled were brilliant, particularly from Hannah Rowe and Sophie Devine. And they bowled to their plans really well.

    The fun is over!

The return to spin works. Tash Farrant looks to hit over the top of mid-on but despite a bit of juggling from Mady Green she hangs on and wraps up the England innings.

Farrant and Danni Wyatt added 51 for the final wicket, though. How crucial could that be this afternoon?

That's a brilliant partnership. Quite often as a number 11 you can just sit in and wait for your partner to be on strike but Tash Farrant looked to score straight away.

That's the 50 partnership between Tash Farrant and Danni Wyatt. It goes without saying that England really needed it from 146-9. It is greeted by a generous round of applause from the New Road ground.

A few more runs and we've got the sort of game that is often a cracker. As one of our editors would say a "low-scoring thriller".

  20. Eng 193-9published at 42 overs

Tash Farrant moves to 21 with a pull over the ring fielders for a couple more.

England, and every side of course, are big on multi-facet cricketers. We know how good a bowler Farrant is, we saw how good a fielder she was in The Hundred, and this innings is showing she can do it with the bat. It could get a starting spot in March's World Cup.
