I like this move. Lea Tahuhu is back on and New Zealand are on the attack.

  3. Eng 73-6published at 20 overs

Katherine Brunt carves Hayley Jensen for four down to third man.

New Zealand need to be careful here. They're obviously well on top but in the second ODI they allowed the last wicket pair of Danni Wyatt and Tash Farrant get away from them. Brunt and Dean can bat, so they don't need to change their plans much at all.

If it wasn't for Covid Molly Penfold was going to do a gap year in 2020.

You'd be forgiven if you're wondering where Molly Penfold has come from. She only had one season of domestic cricket before being called into the squad for this tour as a replacement for the injured Rosemary Mair. Jacob Oram, the White Ferns bowling coach, has described her as a "raw, fast talent" - and while the radar is still getting there, the pace clearly comes naturally to her. She was born in London and doesn't actually have a New Zealand passport, with her family having moved to Aotearoa when she was young.

    Thanks, Callum.

Well, what a start! New Zealand have been very impressive. Lea Tahuhu's spell was ridiculously good but I can't stop thinking about Lauren Down's catch. What a speccie.

Anyway, Charlie Dean thumps the ball down the ground for four. She may be quite low down the order in this England side, but she certainly can bat.

I'm going to take my leave at this point because I'm literally causing chaos to England's batting line-up.

Matt Carver: England struggling all series with bat and the drop Sciver for Brunt. They're lacking batters why not bring in a batter for Sciver. Some clueless selections again this summer from England selecting committee both men and women.

That catch just gets better and better every time I see it. Lauren Down, take a bow. We'll bring it you as soon as we can.

Molly Penfold, at just 20 and on debut, has two wickets now too.

Hayley Jensen offers Charlie Dean a little bit of width and the 20-year-old climbs into the cut shot and picks up her first boundary. England need a few more of those.

That was travelling at some real speed. Molly Penfold bowls quickly but Danni Wyatt hits the ball very hard, too. The awareness, the position and the technique to hold on to it while diving. It was beautiful.

That is a stunner! It was hit hard, she had to dive a fair length, the ball is very low to the ground and she's managed to hold on!

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17 overs

    Wyatt c Down b Penfold 10 (Eng 59-6)

    What a catch!

Danni Wyatt looks to drive on the up, and balls flies towards Lauren Down at backward point who takes an absolute speccie. She sticks out her right hand, and low to the ground, she gets her fingers under the ball and takes a fantastic one-handed catch. That really travelled with the pace of Penfold.

That was a difficult chance but Katey Martin will be spewing that she's missed the opportunity.

  14. dropped catch

Dean dropped on 0published at 16.1 overs

    Oh, down!

Charlie Dean shuffles outside off, and gets in a bit of tangle, and ends up getting a thick edge. It is good height for Katey Martin, and at a good distance for her to reach with her out-stretched right hand and the ball goes in, but pops out.

A let off for England and Dean.

It's a good question. Throughout the summer when Heather Knight spoke about capitalising on The Hundred she consistently spoke about the north and Old Trafford.

The players want it to happen.

  17. Eng 53-5published at 16 overs

Oh, streaky! Danni Wyatt looks to defend, but ends up edging just past slip and the ball races away for four runs.

As Amy says, she has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders here, but her and Charlie Dean's place is by no means secure in this England side, so this is a big opportunity for both.

This has been excellent from New Zealand, bowling full and straight, and an extra bit of pace here and there from Tahuhu and Penfold has done the trick. There's a lot resting on Wyatt's shoulders here.

Molly Penfold looks very raw at the moment, as she sends down a filthy leg-side wide.

But, having said that, she looks to have a good strong action, and you can't argue with 71mph at 20.

Charlie Dean is going to have to battle here. She does a Steve Smith exaggerated leave to end the over.
