That's the one they were looking for, the huge wicket of Suzie Bates. She's not having the best of tours, and here she's caught in two minds about whether to go back or forward.

    Bates b Brunt 5 (NZ 12-1)

    "Comeeee onnnn", screams Katherine Brunt.

Suzie Bates, like so many other batters today, is stuck on the crease and a little bit of movement back in beats her defence and sees the ball crash into middle stump.

Brunt brings out the first pump and roar in celebration. It isn't just reserved for Shafali Verma after all.

Katherine Brunt would've been gutted not to get that fifty. Absolutely gutted. And Tash Farrant's heart would've sank thinking she'd let her teammate down.

    Target 179

Hit em! No. It would have needed to be perfect from Kate Cross as New Zealand and Suzie Bates steal a quick single to end the fourth over.

Cross was brilliant in the second ODI on Sunday. She's going to have a big role to play tonight.

  5. NZ 8-0published at 3 overs

    Target 179

A half appeal from England to end the over but Suzie Bates got a thick inside edge into her pads.

    A sedate start.

  6. NZ 8-0published at 2.3 overs

    Oh, glorious.

Suzie Bates stands tall and pumps an on-drive away to the boundary.

New Zealand have found ways to lose. They should have won the second ODI with great ease but they found a way to lose.

  8. NZ 4-0published at 2 overs

    Target 179

Two dot balls end the second over.

  9. NZ 4-0published at 1.4 overs

    Target 179

Shot! Lauren Down pierces the off-side field to get the New Zealand innings up and running with a boundary.

It'll be the left-armer Tash Farrant with the second new ball.

Somebody else will have to take the new ball for England today alongside Katherine Brunt with Nat Sciver not playing. I assume it'll be Tash Farrant or Kate Cross, I can't see them going left field with a spinner.

That total is something to bowl at. I suppose that is all you can ask for when you have a top-order collapse.

    Target 179

It is pretty bizarre that the players didn't know that. Suzie Bates had started walking off too - she didn't know the rules either.

Amy Jones is the only England player who knew that was going to stick not out when it come up on the screen.

Jones came up to the stumps for the final ball of the over too.

  13. Not outpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

Yeah, the impact was over 3m down the pitch which means the original decision stands.

England had seen the ball crashing into the middle of middle stump so all started celebrating and screaming. There's quite a few "WHAT"'s from them as not out comes up and Sue Redfern sticks to her original decision.

  14. England reviewpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

Has Katherine Brunt got Suzie Bates lbw?

The New Zealand opener came down the track and I did hear Brunt say "that is my only concern" about something, which I presume is whether she is too far down the pitch for the technology to work.

  15. Postpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

It'll be Katherine Brunt to start.

    Thanks Ffion.

It feels like New Zealand have let England off the hook (again!) there. They should chase this, but will they?

What do you think? Thumbs up if you think England will win, thumbs down for New Zealand.

  17. Postpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

Where's this one heading then? New Zealand to cruise it easily or will England go 3-0 up and take the series?

Callum Matthews is here to take you through the start of the chase.

England will know the New Zealand is fragile and if that they can rip through a couple they can win.

New Zealand will be the happier of the two teams, but you can't write England off.

  19. Postpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

Hayley Jensen wrapped up the innings for New Zealand, who will require 179 to win.

The pitch is good - that score doesn't reflect it. The ball moved around a bit at the start as it always will, but there were no demons - England got themselves out and they'd probably admit that.

New Zealand should win this comfortably, but we said the same just a couple of days ago.

  20. Postpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

It was time for England's lower order to get them out of trouble again - which they did. Brunt's 49 not out and Cross 29 could end up being crucial - similarly to the second ODI where New Zealand missed the opportunity to skittle England for 150 or less.
