England then slipped to 101-8 after Sophie Ecclestone fell, and they looked completely out of their depth.

There will be a lot of question marks over England's batting because with the Ashes and World Cup coming up, they cannot afford to keep collapsing - especially against Australia.

New Zealand's debutant Molly Penfold also chipped in with two wickets as she demonstrated some raw pace that will definitely excite them. She played with a smile on her face all day which was lovely to see.

And I know I've said it a lot but check out Lauren Down's catch for that second wicket. The ball was travelling very fast, it was very low to the ground and that's a beauty.

It's fair to say Lea Tahuhu did the bulk of the damage with her maiden ODI five-wicket haul. In the previous two games, she bowled first change and did brilliantly - so Devine gave her the chance to take the new ball and what a decision it turned out to be.

She cleaned up England's top order of Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Winfield-Hill and captain Heather Knight to leave them 20-3 and that's not an easy position for any team to come back from.

Didn't Lea Tahuhu bowl brilliantly? You could tell that New Zealand had regrouped and that they knew they needed to come out fighting in this game and they certainly did that right from the off.

Tahuhu deserved her five-wicket haul. She was the catalyst for England's collapse to 178.

Spare a thought for Katherine Brunt.

She's left stranded on 49 not out - but what an innings. Without her, England would've been skittled a lot earlier. That's given England something to bowl at - but you'd think that's under par.

Time for the bowlers to save them again?

What a shame this will be for Katherine Brunt - she has deserved a fifty.

    Umpire's call and decision stands!

New Zealand need 179 to win.

    No, there's no bat.

Tash Farrant is given out lbw on the field, but she sends it upstairs for a review. And why not.

    Has she hit it?

  11. Eng 178-9published at 48.1 overs

Full, straight and thumped back past the bowler for four! Lovely batting from Tash Farrant.

That was a lovely over from Sophie Devine. She bowled very straight, and there is still a little bit of shape there for her.

  13. Eng 174-9published at 48 overs

    Brunt 49, Farrant 8

More frustrated swipes of the bat from Katherine Brunt who fails to get Sophie Devine away to reach her half-century, playing and missing at a couple of deliveries.

A tidy over that goes for just two.

Kate Cross may consider herself unlucky to get out this way, but she also played a very useful hand in getting England to this total.

  15. Eng 172-9published at 47 overs

    Brunt 48, Farrant 7

Just three overs to go and what a beauty of a knock this is from Brunt.

Feels like there's a real sense of 'what if' here from New Zealand. They should have wrapped this innings up a fair few overs ago.

I've been really impressed by this Katherine Brunt innings. She is known for her power hitting, but this has been a really mature innings. I can't remember a chance that she has given.

This is Katherine Brunt's second-longest innings for England now. Her longest is 98 balls.

  18. Eng 168-9published at 46 overs

    Brunt 47, Farrant 6

Again England's lower order is digging them out of a hole. New Zealand need to wrap this up quickly with the fragility of their batting line up at the moment.

New Zealand will need be wary. They won't want to be leaking too many runs at the end of this innings.

  20. Postpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

Oh wait, there was a very faint edge on that last ball from Farrant that slipped through Katey Martin's gloves so that makes it two drops in the over.

    How costly?
