  1. Eng 228-6published at 72.3 overs

Bairstow rocks back, opens the face of the bat and guides it down to a wide third man. A misfield allows him to come back for a second.

More terrific running from the England man as he pushes towards point and races between the stumps for two more.

  2. Eng 224-6published at 72 overs

There's a shout for lbw as Jason Holder hits Jonny Bairstow on the front pad. Replays show impact was outside the line.

West Indies are looking pretty fatigued out there as Bairstow takes a single to mid-on.

  3. Eng 223-6published at 71 overs

Jonny Bairstow has been England's hero today. I feel there are more big shots to come from him. He's on 89.

  4. Eng 222-6published at 70.3 overs

Oh, that is good! Bairstow takes a slight step to the right and slaps past gully for four more.

  5. Eng 218-6published at 70.2 overs

West Indies sensing they could rip through this England lower order now as Alzarri Joseph comes back into the attack.

But he has Jonny Bairstow to content with. And the England man is in no mood to hang about as he middles the seamer through mid-wicket for four.

  6. Eng 214-6published at 70 overs

New man Chris Woakes safely negotiates the rest of Jason Holder's over.

A very promnising innings from Foakes. I think he got trapped on the crease a bit with the extra height that Holder gets.

Foakes' batting with Bairstow was the most fluent of the day.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 69.2 overs

    Foakes lbw b Holder 42 (Eng 214-6)

Ben Foakes' fine innings comes to an end. It wasn't a terrible review and worth a punt, but replays show the ball would have clattered into leg stump.

The wicket comes against the run of play, ending a 99-run partnership.

  9. England reviewpublished at 69.2 overs

    Eng 214-6

Foakes is trapped in front by the returning Jason Holder and is given lbw!

He reluctantly reviews. It may be a tad high but I think he's gone.

  10. Eng 214-5published at 69 overs

    Bairstow 80, Foakes 42

Bairstow really has turned it up a notch! He opens his body and drags Permaul for four through the leg-side.

And again! Far too full from the spinner but Bairstow is on it like a flash.

Sir Robin Johnson: Ben Foakes proving just how ridiculous it is that he wasn’t picked for the Ashes. All of us who’ve been banging on for years about how good he is are feeling pretty pleased with ourselves.

  12. Eng 205-5published at 68 overs

    Bairstow 72, Foakes 41

Another four as Jonny Bairstow pummels Kemar Roach through the leg side with a vicious pull.

  13. 200 runs

    Eng 201-5published at 67.3 overs

Such is the dominance of Bairstow and Foakes at this moment, two England fans have decided to kip side-by-side on some turf by the stands.

This might wake them up though! An inside edge from Bairstow directs the ball inches over the top of the stumps for four.

A streaky way to get there, but England's 200 is up and The Barmy Army are in full voice.

  14. Eng 192-5published at 67 overs

Four! Ben Foakes, as he has done on a few occasions before, advances down to the pitch of the ball and drills Permaul through the leg side.

  15. Eng 186-5published at 66 overs

Kemar Roach returns. The seamer is bowling in significantly different conditions than first thing this morning.

Hardly any movement and far less carry through to the 'keeper. Joe Root said the pitch would get easier for the batting side, and it has. If only England's top four could have battled through and survived the morning session.

  16. Eng 185-5published at 65 overs

Permaul has not looked threatening in the slightest as a Bairstow single takes this partnership to 70. Still plenty of time left in the day - one which could end up belonging to England.

West Indies are letting their good work early on slip away.

  17. Eng 184-5published at 64 overs

    Bairstow 59, Foakes 35

Yes, Foakes! Great shot as he waits back and clips Jayden Seales through mid-wicket.

Make that back-to-back boundaries. This one is hit in the same region but with more power.

Foakes is batting beautifully as England creep towards that 200 mark.

  18. Eng 176-5published at 63 overs

After the excitement of Bairstow overturning the umpire's decision, he blocks out the remaining five deliveries. A maiden over.

New balls, please! The ball seems to have lost its shape so on comes an official with a selection of new ones.

  19. Not outpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

    Eng 176-5

No spike on UltraEdge! I have no idea what noise West Indies fielders heard but they all went up.

But Bairstow looked confused as ever and took no more than a couple of seconds to make the T signal. He knew he hadn't hit it.

  20. England reviewpublished at 62.1 overs

West Indies are convinced Bairstow has edged behind sweeping to Permaul.

Given out. Bairstow, without hesitation, reviews.
