  1. Eng 140-5published at 46 overs

After a quiet over from Jason Holder, it's time for a bit of spin for the first time today.

    Here's left-arm tweaker Veerasammy Permaul.

  2. Eng 137-5published at 45 overs

    Bairstow 33, Foakes 15

There are 20 minutes to go until tea. I won't say anything about how comfortable Jonny Bairstow and Ben Foakes are looking...

Christopher Woods-Yeates: Doubt England would get 200+ on the road Pakistan Australia played on.

  4. Eng 135-5published at 44 overs

Bairstow tickles one fine down to the boundary - more helpful runs for England's cause. There's still work to be done if they're going to get anywhere near that 250 mark.

The camera is panning around the ground picking out the great and good of West Indies cricket.

Jambarrell: I'm not worried, 250 might be OK on this wicket.

  6. Eng 131-5published at 43 overs

    Bairstow 33, Foakes 13

My word. Ben Foakes may have edged that one earlier in the over but otherwise he's come out batting like a dream. He pings Kemar Roach back down the ground twice to end the over. Lovely, lovely shots.

  7. Eng 122-5published at 42.2 overs

This is another beauty from Kemar Roach. Ben Foakes edges it but the ball drops short of slip. England can't even say they've been unlucky today.

  8. Eng 118-5published at 42 overs

    Bairstow 33, Foakes 1

Foakes is off the mark straight away with a single on the drive. It feels like England fans have been calling for his inclusion for years. He should finally get a good run.

He averaged 13.75 on the tour to West Indies in 2018.

It's important for Foakes that he does contribute with the bat. With Bairstow in the team, there's always the possibility of him taking back the gloves.

  10. Eng 116-5published at 41 overs

Battling from Stokes but not enough from his side's perspective.

Ben Foakes, lips covered in white suncream, is out in the middle.

That was a battling innings in a battling situation from Stokes.

You could tell from his celebration just how much that wicket meant to Seales. In the same over he'd seen an edge to slip drop short, before being hit for two fours

    Stokes b Seales 36 (Eng 115-5)

    And just like that...

20-year-old Jayden Seales responds brilliantly to those two boundaries with a full inswinger to Ben Stokes which knocks over the England all-rounder's stumps.

The tourists had briefly calmed things but now they're right back under the pump.

  14. Eng 115-4published at 17:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

    Stokes 36, Bairstow 31

Bairstow is looking more comfortable than his fellow ginger batter Ben Stokes. Having got away with one earlier, Stokes nicks off to Seales but the ball dies off the slow pitch and bounces before reaching first slip.

He follows that with a booming stroke of authority which is thumped to the fence. A tickle down to fine leg follows. Much better.

  15. Eng 107-4published at 39 overs

Right on cue, as if to make Aggers' point for him, Jonny Bairstow times one off his pads beautifully to collect four off Roach.

    Timed a European train schedule.

England just need more of the same from these two after drinks. The longer you bat on this surface, the more you start to find your timing.

Kemar Roach is going to bowl after drinks. He was brilliant earlier.

Eng 103-4published at 17:41 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

Well we've now had an hour's play in this session. England have scored 46 runs without the loss of a wicket.

    I wasn't expecting that...

This pitch is sluggish - it's not great for these two natural strokemakers.

Things have certainly settled down in this session and that can only be a good thing for England. Jack Leach has his head on the table on the dressing room balcony.

Has anyone got any news to share since we last came together for an England Test?
