  1. WI 370-8published at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2022

    Lead by 59 runs

The shutters have pretty much gone down from West Indies now as Ben Stokes chalks up another maiden over.

The most threatening was a bouncer from Stokes' final ball which Nkrumah Bonner comfortably ducks under.

Four overs left in the day.

  3. WI 370-8published at 152.0 overs

Jack Leach seems to have visibly aged during the 43 overs he has bowled.

There's a edge from Veerasammy Permaul's bat to his second ball but the ball goes through his legs and there's nothing for Ben Foakes to work with.

Leach's final delivery to Bonner skips past his leg stump and is well claimed by the England gloveman.

    A maiden.

England are in a precarious position here having to bat third. With a first innings lead like this, if you get rolled, you've lost the match. It happens often, but they should be able to bat easily on this pitch.

  5. WI 370-8published at 151.0 overs

Ben Stokes, with a hang dog expression, utters something indecipherable under his breath as he runs into the crease to bowl.

He's putting himself through the mill, and straining every sinew of effort, here.

A maiden from the England all-rounder as Nkrumah Bonner seems content to bunker down for the remaining six overs of the day.

Joe Root said before the Test that he had an idea of how many overs Ben Stokes could bowl at a time as they manage his fitness - he declined to give the figure, but I'd bet a lot of money it wasn't as many as 25 overs in two days...

  7. WI 369-8published at 150.0 overs

England's weary players just want to get through to the close now. There's a few stiff looking bodies out there so you sense there will be a queue round the block for the England masseuse.

Veerasammy Permaul brings up his highest Test score with a cute dab for one off Jack Leach to reach 24 not out.

It's difficult to say whether Broad and Anderson would be more effective on this sluggish, slow pitch.

  9. WI 368-8published at 148.4 overs

Nkrumah Bonner content to defend Ben Stokes, before the all-rounder forces him to duck under a bouncer with his fourth delivery.

Hard yakka for Stokes today. He's earned that, ahem, protein bar and isotonic drink tonight.

Nkrumah Bonner turned his back on cricket for a couple of years. He went to America and worked in construction as a labourer, before returning to the Caribbean to give cricket one last shot. West Indies will be very glad he did...

  11. WI 368-8published at 147.4 overs

Jack Leach tosses one up but Veerasammy Permaul has picked it and uses his feet before he whacks it back down the ground for four.

He has a huge smile on his face.

Next ball Leach darts in a quicker ball, yorker length, but his fellow spinner digs it out.

Dan Parton: I thought the West Indies had a long tail that couldn’t bat? They’re on the way to batting England out of this one. England’s attack looking distinctly toothless.

  13. Not outpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2022

A big inside edge from Nkrumah Bonner and he survives.

Ben Stokes looks to the heavens and, borne out of frustration, utters the kind of words he'd think twice about using in front of his nearest and dearest.

  14. West Indies reviewpublished at 146.3 overs

Ben Stokes back into the attack, shouldering some of the England toil during and strikes Nkrumah Bonner full on the pad.

It's given out but Bonner has reviewed.

  16. WI 364-8published at 146.0 overs

Jack Leach has a filthy patch of soil and red cherry on the back of his trousers. A long day in the dirt for England.

Veerasammy Permaul doesn't want to get dismissed by his fellow spinner it seems, and pats down another Leach maiden.

West Indies have the option of declaring before close of play to give England a difficult few overs in the dark, but I think I'd be inclined to just keep batting.

  18. WI 364-8published at 145.0 overs

Shouts of "catch!" from Jonny Bairstow after another short ball from Chris Woakes is taken on Nkrumah Bonner who hooks it for four.

There's a couple of fielders out in the deep but it goes between them as Bonner moves on to 121 off 321 balls.

Veerasammy Permaul is 19 off 54 and looking to eclipse his Test best of 23 not out.

Billy Crawford: Am I the only one who thinks the West Indies might already have enough to win by an innings?

  20. WI 360-8published at 144.0 overs

Jack Leach wheels away around the wicket and West Indies are able to pick up four runs from that over.

There's a flicker of interest when Veerasammy Permaul skips down the pitch to his final ball but he snuffs out the spin before getting back to his crease.
