Arjun Singh: Chris Woakes has been so, so unlucky (as well as bowling poorly to begin). I can’t remember how many edges have gone to third man for four off his bowling.

  2. WI 340-8published at 134 overs

Permaul is unorthodox but successful so far for his six off 20 balls

Just the one successfully overturned review when he inside edged an lbw decision.

Andrew Bevan: RE Ian Holmes and West Indies food, perhaps the most bountiful food on offer is the buffet being served up by some of our bowlers!

  4. WI 336-8published at 133 overs

It's all systems go in the field as players move drastically for the batter 109 runs behind Bonner's 110*.

A helmet is donned at silly point.

Overton is being encouraged to give Permaul a bit of chin music here by his team-mates.

One of them is somehow steered into the leg side for one by Permaul, from one of the weirdest positions I have ever seen.

  5. WI 334-8published at 132.1 overs

Another change of bowling sees Overton return.

He has bowled 125 dot balls in his 27 overs to date.

This over should have started with a single to Bonner who turns it down, deciding Permaul can't handle the Somerset pacer and keeps the strike.

Chris Woakes returns to the attack in place of Jack Leach.

He attempts a short ball to keep Veerasammy Permaul on his toes.

Permaul pulls to long leg and uses those same toes to scamper a single.

Bonner drives through covers for one.

Ian Holmes: Watching the Test makes me long for another trip to the West Indies, for the food as much as the cricket. Curried goat, coconut rice and fried plantain. All the dips. YUM YUM.

    Another Stokes maiden to Bonner.

In fairness Scott (19:32), Leach has bowled much better with attacking fields set this Test match, quite differently to down under across December and January.

With all these fast-bowling injuries, struggles and non-selections, could Root not be brave and play two spinners - Leach and Parkinson?!

    (Outrageous I know).

Scott Fowler: As good as Jack Leach has been. With this drift and the obvious turn on offer can’t help but think Matt Parkinson would have been more of a threat.

Permaul attempts to use his feet to Leach, rather unconvincingly.

Leach has toiled away well for England across today and yesterday and would deserve two tail-end wickets to add to his 1-66 off 35 overs.

  12. Not outpublished at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2022

So close to the bat it actually hit the bat.

    Inside edge and Permaul survives.

Stokes looks up to the skies in anguish.

  13. West Indies reviewpublished at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2022

Veerasammy Permaul is given out lbw from just his second ball against Ben Stokes.

The ball is close to the bat as it then hits his pad.

    Permaul sends it straight upstairs.

The run out was by some six inches or so and a sharp piece of work by Ollie Pope in the field, and good technique from Ben Foakes.

There was a communication breakdown, some confusion, and Kemar Roach will be disappointed to be back on his way to the pavilion after batting for so long. We are really into the West Indies tail now.

WICKETpublished at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2022

Roach run out (sub) 15 (WI 326-8)

    At last.

Just as we applauded Kemar Roach's rearguard efforts he gets himself out in a way that does not require good England bowling.

Sub fielder Ollie Pope does well behind point, Ben Foakes doing the necessary rest from in front of the stumps.

Roach is run out for 15 off 89 balls.

  16. Third umpirepublished at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2022

Is Roach short of his ground here?

"I reckon this is out", Root shouts.

A run out appeal is sent upstairs.

  17. WI 326-7published at 127 overs

Ben Stokes tries the full and straight ploy to Kemar Roach to no avail.

    Another maiden.

I thought Roach was a typical tailender but he's showing he's got a bit about him here.

Not quite like his old mate Shannon Gabriel who you know would be out soon enough after some entertaining shots!

Given it did look like sliding down in real time, it was a bit of an ambitious appeal from Root, Leach, Foakes and co there but worth a try when little else has looked like getting Bonner out since Crawley dropped him on 73.

It fits the description of close, but it's ultimately in the hands of the men in the middle.
