Terrific effort by the West Indies. It was not easy out there, and that was an excellent partnership between Blackwood and Brathwaite that clearly frustrated England, who will have wanted more than just three wickets throughout the day.

While West Indies deserve the plaudits, remember that England had their chances.

The tourists failed to review a not-out decision when Blackwood, on nought, was struck on the pads by Ben Stokes.

Blackwood was later by Test debutant Saqib Mahmood, only for the TV umpire to rule a no-ball as the England team began their celebrations.

Brathwaite too could have been dismissed late in the day when Ben Foakes missed out on a tough stumping chance.

Jermaine Blackwood showed patience, application and good powers of concentration.

Jermaine Blackwood speaking to BT Sport: "This was a very special innings for me because the last game I didn't really score any runs. I have a lot of half-centuries. The coach Phil Simmons always stresses that to me. There was a lot of pressure to go and score a 100 today. It was very special to me."

On heated exchange with Ben Stokes: "I love playing against Ben Stokes. It's good fun playing against him. I love the banter. It pushes me."

On being dismissed by Dan Lawrence while leaving the ball: "I misjudged that one. I thought it would bounce a bit more. It was an error."

So West Indies trail England by 219 runs.

The day belongs to captain Kraigg Brathwaite for his dogged 109 off 337 balls and Jermaine Blackwood who scored a hard-fought 102 from 215 balls.

The pair shared a superb 173-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Their hapless review of the last ball of the day pretty much sums things up. I'm not even entirely sure what that review was for.

    Nowhere near the bat!

And that's day three done, folks. The nightwatchman does his job and survives England's final over of the day.

    WI 284-4

An England review on the final delivery of the day. They think (or perhaps hope) Joseph may have edged it onto his pads before the ball looped up to silly point. I think it's a pretty optimistic shout.

  10. WO 284-4published at 116.3 overs

Joseph unconvincingly reaches at a wide one, defends well off the back foot, refuses to take a single into the off side and then absolutely creams a half-volley from Lawrence through the huge gap in the off side.

  11. WI 284-4published at 116 overs

Brathwaite, understandably, taking zero risks in the penultimate over of the day. Maiden for Leach.

  12. WI 284-4published at 115 overs

England's fielders continue to pepper Alzarri Joseph with some verbal jabs.

The nightwatchman has to be watchful as Lawrence, with his slingy action, beats the outside edge.

We have two overs remaining in the day. England desperate for just one more wicket before the close of play.

It was a bit of a brainstorm from Blackwood - to get to 102 and then shoulder arms to a part-time off-spinner towards the end of the day was clearly a misjudgement.

  14. WI 284-4published at 113 overs

Kraigg Brathwaite only has one goal in mind - see out the remaining few overs.

The opener is happy to defend Leach's over and handing the strike over to Joseph.

Dan Lawrence knows all about batting well all day and then thowing your wicket away just before close of play...

I'm not sure that is the right attitude from Alzarri Joseph as this time...

  17. WI 284-4published at 112 overs

Dan Lawrence causing all kind of problems as nightwatchman Alzarri Joseph plays and misses. A short-leg, silly point, slip and leg-slip in place.

Oh my! Joseph clears his front leg and looks to slap the spinner through the leg side.

"Do your job, Alzarri," an England fielder cheekily quips.

A comical piece of batting on Red Nose Day (I've been waiting for an opportunity to say that all day!)

    Blackwood lbw b Lawrence 102 (WI 284-4)

Three reds! England's bowling attack tried and tried but it is part-time spinner Dan Lawrence who has found the breakthrough.

It was a terrible piece of misjudgement from Blackwood late in the day. but take nothing away from a fantastic innings.

Dan Lawrence may well indeed be the unlikely man to find the late breakthrough! Jermaine Blackwood shoulders his arms and is struck on the front pad. The umpire raises his finger.

Blackwood reviews but I have a feeling he's gone.
