Two hours ago we were saying England were rubbish, now we're saying West Indies are rubbish. Neither team are able to grab the initiative.

Fair play to this partnership though. They've played with great clarity.

Jack: Right England need to either get to 200 and out in next 2 overs or they need to declare and get West Indies in for that awkward 30 minutes before Close of Play while there is life in the pitch.

  3. new ball

No hesitation. The new nut is chucked to Kemar Roach who drys his palsm on the turf before beginning his spell.

These two are in and determined. West Indies are tired and flagging. I reckon they might just be able to negotiate 10 overs of the new ball.

Two runs off that Kraigg Brathwaite over.

Jack: Possible that Mahmood and Leach have just saved Joe Root’s Test captaincy career.

Some of the body language from the West Indies players is quite disappointing. There are quite a few tea pots out there.

Nkrumah Bonner continues as we edge closer to the new ball. He tosses a few up hoping to bring a false stroke.

Saqib Mahmood misses the ball with a drive off Bonner's fourth ball and it also beats the gloves Joshua da Silva. Four byes to England's total.

West Indies looking quite ragged now.

Saqib Mahmood's highest score in first-class cricket is 34. He'll want to try and get there before the new ball comes...

  9. Eng 174-7published at 78.0 overs

Guess there may be a little more moisture in the pitch tomorrow morning and England might want the ball to be a touch newer when they bowl with it would be one argument, Shuan.

Four more to the total as Saqib Mahmood whips Kraigg Brathwaite cutely off his legs for four. He is 30 not out and Jack Leach is unbeaten on 34.

Gutsy stuff. And quite a bit of fun as well.

Shaun: This is awful. What on earth does dragging out this innings at one or two runs an over achieve? Especially when there's life in the pitch still for the bowlers to try and make use of. *sigh*

The ball is like a hybrid compared to the Dukes ball used back in England which doesn't go as soft as this.

  12. Eng 168-9published at 77.0 overs

Jack Leach has that steely look in his eyes. He cloths one down the ground off Nkrumah Bonner to pick up another single.

West Indies are just going through the motions here, simply expecting it to happen. A few balls later and Saqib Mahmood has a filthy slog across the line and England run three.

    200. Is that possible?!

Not sure if you can see it on this picture, but there are three Bristol Rovers flags within less than 100m of each other. I've also seen at least one Rovers shirt.

I'm starting to envisage a scenario where somehow Jack Leach and Saqib Mahmood see off the new ball make it through to the close with their wickets in tact.

Jack Leach pushes one to point and sets off. That's the fifty partnership for these two.

All of England's players are on the balcony to applaud their efforts.

West Indies are trying to get to the new ball as quickly as they can. But the ball is so soft it's not travelling off the bat.

  16. Eng 162-9published at 75.0 overs

Spin from both ends as West Indies attempt to get through to the new ball now, perhaps.

England prod and push at Nkrumah Bonner's part-time leggies around and they add one more run to the total.

Andrew: This may not be a very good total, but England have now surpassed three of the 10 totals they made in the Ashes in Australia...

    Amen to that, John.

West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite is twirling away in slow motion in the hope he can induce a miscue from one of England's last pair.

England are resisting for now. His final ball of the over goes for four byes.

Meanwhile, Jayden Seales looks like he might have tweaked something while fielding a ball down on the boundary.

It wasn't an easy catch, but the sort of chance you should be taking. Saqib Mahmood is playing some shots now!
