West Indies gamble of picking a side without a spinner has looked good so far. Of course it still depends on how well they bat. I still think there may come a stage in England's second innings when he pitch flattens out where one might come in handy.

  2. Eng 113-8published at 50 overs

Jack Leach and Chris Woakes are slowly but surely moving England towards a total that at least gives the bowlers a small bit of interest and something to work with. While they won't be able to bowl many bad balls, the odd one won't be as damaging that.

There is just under 10 minutes until now tea now - assuming England don't lose another wicket of course.

I watched all five days at the ground last week. At least this sort of thing didn’t happen then.

The moment this game turns? (Probably not...)

Jack Leach tries to jam down on a wide, full ball outside off stump but ends up steering it towards Kyle Mayers at first slip, but he spills it. It goes over his head after the initial fumble and he can't gather the rebound either.

A missed opportunity for the hosts.

The ball will have gone that little bit softer by now, but there is still encouragement for the West Indies bowlers out there.

  6. Eng 110-8published at 48 overs

    Another good over for England.

Chris Woakes picks up three with a whip through mid-wicket, while Jack Leach tickles fine for four. A leg bye ends the over.

Just over 15 minutes till lunch. England will be hoping these two are still at the crease.

Potentially the highlight of the day so far.

Jason Holder drops the ball in his run-up and the ball trickles down to Jack Leach and he brings a solid forward defence, French cricket style, to keep the ball out.

Holder and Leach share a laugh.

Kumaran Ravendradas: I don't think it's ever been said before but that cover drive off Jason Holder by Jack Leach was quite like a certain Clive Lloyd in his pomp. We still have hope with Clive Leach and Chris Woakes at the crease.

  9. Eng 102-8published at 47 overs

Chris Woakes is happy to rotate the strike at the moment - he isn't looking to farm it away and keep Jack Leach away. Rightly so too, although I do wonder if that might change when Saqib Mahmood gets to the crease.

    Just one from the over.

One of the thing batters on both sides will be looking at is this uneven bounce on this pitch. It will be playing on their minds.

  11. Eng 101-8published at 46 overs

Jason Holder finds his line and length for the rest of the over and Jack Leach is happy to block and leave.

There's just under 30 minutes till tea. That's schedule for 18:40 GMT.

    ENGLAND HAVE A 100!

It's a gorgeous shot too. Jack Leach absolutely leans into a full delivery from Jason Holder and drives to the boundary.

Leach never lets us down with the bat in hand, does he? He's given us some of our great moments of hope and excitement in recent years.

Jack Byrne: This is the sort of wicket that Saqib Mahmood has ripped out top orders for Lancashire and England with a new ball the last two seasons. Joe Root should be brave and give it him over Craig Overton and Chris Woakes.

    Four more.

Kemar Roach overpitches again and Chris Woakes sends him to the cover boundary again.

    Woakesy loves a drive.

West Indies have bowled a meticulous line and length today. Can England?

  17. Eng 92-8published at 44 overs

    Woakes 13, Leach 1

Jack Leach is off the mark. It comes via a push into the covers, from quite possibly the longest and most stretching forward defence I've ever seen.

We know he can hang again. Can he today?

John C Hughes: Fragile. Feeble. Frail. Flimsy. Just some of the words beginning with F that accurately describe this England batting line-up.

  19. Eng 90-8published at 43 overs

Jack Leach sees out the final five balls of Kemar Roach's over. Just. He got beat on the outside edge by an absolute beauty fourth ball.

The West Indies crowd are lovely this. The instruments being played round the ground are making a lovely noise.
