I like Leach but he is not and realistically never will be an International spinner. Other teams have no fear when facing him and he has no 'mystery' ball. I have no alternative though....

Joshua da Silva keeps out five balls from Jack Leach and England skipper Joe Root brings the field up.

The good news is that England keep out the single which means Jayden Seales is on strike.

The bad news is Joshua da Silva whacked Leach back over his head for a four which landed just in front of the rope.

This is a terrific display from Da Silva, who's been farming the strike expertly, having been hit badly on the hand by Woakes.

    Da Silva 74, Seales 6

More of the same from Joshua da Silva who whips a short deliver from Ben Stokes' fourth ball down to square leg for a single. Jayden Seales keeps the next two balls out.

England have got to change their approach. Da Silva looks content to continue this approach all day.

Joshua da Silva is taking the proverbial now. Why don't England bring the field in and encourage him to take a few risks?

He eats up five balls of Jack Leach's over and then pushes his sixth ball for a single to keep the strike.

Joe Root and Ben Stokes have a long tactical discussion before the latter's next over.

I have to agree with Joe from Esher. It's the captain's job to prescribe plans that can apply the strengths of his team. Joe Root is probably the best England batter I have watched in the last 60 years but his captaincy is poor. The short stuff attack only works when it's blended in with good line and length so it's a surprise. Last night's debacle was the worst captaincy I've seen in the last 29 years. He made sure no batter had to even think about the off side and it destroyed his own bowlers effective options. Sorry Joe but Mike Brearley would never have done that!

Ben Stokes continues after drinks but Joshua da Silva playing the situation extremely well, seeing off five balls and leaving Jayden Seales with one to face.

Stokes is able to find the edge of Seales' bat and the ball flies through to third slip - except there isn't one - and England's cordon all have their hands on their heads. Four more runs to the total.

West Indies have survived their first task - to bat through to drinks and extend the lead above 50.

Mike: Thought I would go outside for an hour to give the grass the first cut of the summer, leave the edges for later, and come back in to see England's openers making inroads into a West Indies lead of thirty.

OK, I'm back in, grass cut.Oh dear.Off out to do the edges.

Joshua da Silva sweeps Jack Leach's third delivery and the ball carries through to strike him on the pad. England appeal, but Da Silva got a bottom edge on that.

Fifth ball of the over Da Silva advances down the track and Joe Root's dive to prevent a single is in vain. Jayden Seales blocks Leach's last ball.

Frustrating for England, who should be batting by now. But it's their fault that they burnt off their three reviews, especially with the umpiring this series being so poor.

Ben Stokes, hair slicked back like England's answer to the Fonz, is thrown the ball as Joe Root searches for a way to nip out this final West Indies wicket before the tension and frustration starts to turn up.

Joshua da Silva nudges a single and leaves Jayden Seales two balls which he is more than happy to defend.

Jack Leach, definitely not like the Fonz, on next.

I don't think the real problem is patience or ruthlessness. It's that when teams are on top we sit back and wait for them to make mistakes, which they then tend not to do. Sorry, but I put that down to a poor captain who has little tactical nous, and fewer ideas.

Saqib Mahmood gets a yorker and hurls down a high full toss which Joshua da Silva picks up late and whips off his pads. He turns down the single, only to work the next delivery into the leg-side for a single to leave Jayden Seales to fend of two balls.

Ninja Embellish: Joe Root is brilliant at so many things but reviews aren't one, and it's cost England big time now.

  20. WI 254-9published at 96.0 overs

West Indies quickly ran through their reviews as well when England batted. Too much of a temptation for captains on either side desperate to make inroads, I think, so Joe Root perhaps not alone in this regard.

Joshua da Silva moves on to 68 after he clips Chris Woakes' third delivery.for a single to bring Jayden Seales back on strike.

The left-handed Seales gets himself off the mark off his 13th ball with an uppish drive through point. Not perfectly timed, but he's got enough on it.
