England's challenge is simply to survive the day.

It's a long way from what we thought at start of play this morning, especially when Roach was dismissed so soon.

England would have had visions of setting West Indies a big total, but at the moment, there's only one team who can win it, and it's not England.

Alex Lees is 11 not out from 63 balls at tea, with Jonny Bairstow unbeaten on three.

Extras - with 12 - is currently England's top scorer in their second innings.

Everyone take a breather for 20 minutes - England have at least managed to take it to the final session on day three...

I said when Zak Crawley was out that England wouldn't want to lose too many more wickets in that session. Three - Joe Root, Dan Lawrence and Ben Stokes - have fell since.

They still trail by 50. There is a LOT of hard work to do.

Oh! A moment of fortune for Alex Lees. He's stretching for the ball, on the drive, outside off stump and inside edges just past his leg stump and away from a single.

He hasn't looked totally comfortable with his guard and when to play and leave so far today, truth be told.

Jonny Bairstow is off the mark with a single, thanks to a fumble in the covers.

Jonny Bairstow is solidly in behind Kyle Mayers' latest over and blocks out a maiden.

The Yorkshireman loves a scrap. Can he play a blinder and give England a chance of pulling off the most unlikely victory?

George Pears: Not enough is spoken regarding the dropping of Dawid Malan. One of the few positives of the Ashes against a difficult bowling attack. Usman Khawaja has shown age means nothing. Why was he discarded so easily? Perhaps he also didn't bow down to Joe Root like Stuart Broad and James Anderson.

Alex Lees plays out a maiden from Jason Holder.

This is a big opportunity for the Durham opener. He definitely hasn't nailed down a long-term place in this series but an innings of note here would almost certainly bookmark him in the team for the first Test against New Zealand in June.

Much of the good work England have done with the bat in the first two Tests is disintegrating. The first innings was tough to bat on - today's had indifferent bounce, but not as tricky.

Jonny Bairstow keeps out his first three balls. He's got a massive job on his hands.

The England changing room couldn't believe that wicket of Ben Stokes. Matthew Fisher had his head in his hands and Joe Root just looked in absolute shock. It was almost an expression of "has that actually happened?" - almost utter disbelief that Stokes hasn't been able to pull England out of the mire again.

    England are in BIG trouble.

Kyle Mayers has done it again too - he's got three wickets!

Ben Stokes was looking to leave the ball alone, but he's dandled the bat out a little bit too much and it grazes off the toe end of the bat and through to stand-in keeper Shamarh Brooks for the most simple catch.

    England are still 54 behind!

  14. dropped catch

Lees dropped on ninepublished at 16.2 overs

    Could this prove costly?

Alex Lees reaches for a drive, and it flies towards Nkrumah Bonner at third slip and it hits his wrist and goes to ground.

It was a catchable height and should probably be taken, despite how quickly it travelled there.

Hmmm. The medical staff are out looking at Joshua da Silva's finger again. He's clearly struggling with it after Chris Woakes hit him on it earlier.

He's actually going to go off the field - certainly for the time being anyway - and Shamarh Brooks is putting on the pads and gloves.

He gets a little handshake from Jason Holder and John Campbell.

    Good from Alex Lees.

He's twice forward, meeting the ball, to pick up a couple and then a single through the covers with nicely-timed pushes.

He's striking at just 18 at the moment - for his nine from 50 balls - but that isn't an issue at all for England or him. Time is not an issue.

Just a Ben Stokes single from the over again.

He and Alex Lees have been together for 4.3 overs now. England need them to be together for 54.3 overs - at least.

Another single for Ben Stokes as he reaches and bunts a single in the covers. He was looking for a couple, but Alex Lees wisely turns him back.

Dan Lawrence was England's 11th duck of the year already, by the way. They had over 50 last year so there's some way to go to reach that.
