It has definitely been England's first hour. A couple of cutters have done the job, rather than the swing, but the bowling has been brilliant. Their discipline, in terms of line, has been excellent to watch.

  3. drinks break

    Ind 45-2published at 15 overs

    Raut 14, Raj 5

An interesting approach to the short ball from Mithali Raj as Nat Sciver fires one in and she just drops her bat and lets it hit her on the arm.

Sciver repeats the dose next ball and Raj plays and misses. A plan on show here for England?

    The players take a drink.

The other wicket to fall this morning was Smriti Mandhana, who played this lovely shot before she tried to replicate it and was bowled.

    Isabelle Westbury
Ex-Middlesex captain on BBC Test Match Special

India are going to have to exceed 250 for it to challenge England.

  6. Ind 42-1published at 14 overs

Just the single from the over as Mithali Raj glides a controlled edge down to third man off the final ball to retain the strike. She is a player known for occupying the crease, and loves a not out - India will need that glue in their innings today.

  7. Ind 41-2published at 13.1 overs

Kate Cross comes into the attack and immediately gets some bounce to Mithali Raj which strikes her on the pad. There's a big appeal but not given - replays show it was too high.

  8. Ind 41-2published at 13 overs

    Raut 14, Raj 1

An identical shot from Raut finds her another boundary. That over will give her a lot of confidence and she just needs to stay there to make it count.

Sciver follows it up with a short ball that is left alone.

    Emily Windsor
Southern Vipers player on BBC Test Match Special

That is fantastic shot from Poonam Raut - it was just a little push.

  10. Ind 37-2published at 12.1 overs

And some more glorious timing from Raut as she beats the ring fielders to get a cover drive away for four. Textbook.

  11. Ind 33-2published at 12 overs

    Raut 6, Raj 1

Raut times a couple nicely to pick up some twos that can't quite find the boundary. The amount of balls she's taken up will be justified if she can stick around here.

  12. Postpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 27 June 2021

Here was that big wicket of Shafali Verma, which really changed the pace of this India innings.

    Emily Windsor
Southern Vipers player on BBC Test Match Special

England are creating a lot of pressure, and bowling a lot of dot balls.

  14. Ind 30-2published at 11 overs

    Nat Sciver replaces Katherine Brunt.

She has her hair tied back in its textbook bun, which I would imagine she'll be redoing plenty of times today in this wind.

Three singles from the over and Poonam Raut has three from 24 balls.

  15. How's stat?!published at 11:44 British Summer Time 27 June 2021

    Phil Long
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

Mithali Raj made her ODI debut 22 years ago yesterday, and made a century in that game.

This is her 215th ODI and she's scored 7,098 runs and she's clear by more than a 1,000 runs.

  16. Ind 27-2published at 10 overs

First 10 overs done and they definitely belonged to England.

You sense that Raut and captain Mithali Raj just need to occupy the crease and accumulate for a while now, as it's certainly not looking easy for batting out there at the moment.

    Daniel Norcross
    BBC Test Match Special

It was a claggy 10 from Smriti Mandhana. India are in more than a spot of bother now.

  18. wicket

    Ind 27-2published at 9.4 overs

    Mandhana b Shrubsole 10

Mandhana was timing the ball nicely but she wasn't getting the ball past the fielders, so that looked like a wicket of frustration.

She goes to carve past point but it was full and straight and not quite there to play off the back foot.

  19. Postpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 27 June 2021

    Isabelle Westbury
Ex-Middlesex captain on BBC Test Match Special

Good on Poonam Raut, but good on Smriti Mandhana too for saying review it.

Katherine Brunt sort of went "why are you reviewing?" with her arms out, so there are interesting mind games going on between the two sides here.

  20. Ind 27-1published at 9 overs

Katherine Brunt was not happy with that. She looked at Raut in disbelief when she opted for the review.
