Optimistic I think. Once the ball gets softer it will be harder.

I wonder what is going through Lisa Keightley's mind right now?
Frustrating but optimistic?
The first maiden of the day!
End of the powerplay (shortened because this is a 47-over game thanks to rain) and Sophie Ecclestone is coming into the attack.
Jemimah Rodrigues the new batter.

Shafali Verma was calculated today, she hadn't played the expansive shots, her strike-rate today is unheard of. The ball just wasn't there for that shot.

Shafali Verma must get frustrated with herself because she knows what she can do.
It is a big breakthrough for England.
Verma c Knight b Cross 19
It's the big one! Kate Cross comes into the attack and strikes straight away.
Verma never quite got going - she did thump a few fours but never looked totally at ease as she usually does. She goes for another big shot and skies it to Knight at cover, and she is raging with herself, throwing her bat on the floor in a bit of a tantrum.

I don't know if you can, technically, play an aggressive defensive shot, but Shafali Verma does. The sound it makes off the middle of the bat is astonishing.

That is a lovely shot by Smriti Mandhana. She just guided it.
India are off to a good start.
Verma 15, Mandhana 25
While Shafali Verma thumps, Mandhana glides.
She steers a wide-ish delivery from Shrubsole down to third man for another graceful four.
Smriti Mandhana, stop it. That is beautiful, a repeat of that cover drive we saw a few overs ago. So elegant, the sort of shot most of us mere mortals can only dream of playing.
One day, maybe.

I've still got my sunglasses on - I'm keeping the faith.
I'm off to Magaluf after this.

It looks darker and it is coming this way.
I'm not sure if a 17-year-old can have a classic shot but that is one of Verma's - thumping Brunt over her head, clearing her front leg and simply whacking it.
I sense there will be some short balls in the next over.

She is a quick learner.

Shafali Verma is just a lot more measured today than she has been throughout the series.
Mandhana gets another well timed pull shot away, but Sophia Dunkley does brilliantly diving on the boundary to prevent the four.
Verma chips one in the air and there's not much of an effort from Shrubsole to attempt the catch, but maybe it was just out of her reach.

The weather radar is saying that in half an hour Cheltenham is going to get quite a lot of rain. We're sort of in a little bit of a gap at the moment, and we might miss it. It'll get dark and murky.
