  1. Eng 7-1published at 3 overs

    Burns 7, Malan 0

Burns is playing right across his front with the bat coming down at a horrible angle. I don't need a protractor to tell you that. 20 minutes to go until the break.

    Over to Dawid Malan then.

I'd have just sat in the dressing room and said "no lads, you do it".

    Hameed c Carey b Richardson 0 (Eng 4-1)

A nation sighs in unison. England managed 11 balls before losing their first wicket.

Haseeb Hameed is the first to go, gloving a ball that leaps off a length from Jhye Richardson.

It has bounced but Hameed has to be leaving that.

Listening on a Lapland trip with the kids. Shall I ask Santa for; a Starc injury, an Atherton-esq Hameed 185* to draw, or a miraculous Adelaide win? Ho, Ho, Ho.

Jhye Richardson didn't take a wicket in the first innings but he's sharing the new ball.

Starc looks fine on this evidence. Burns lifts his gloves high to leave.

  12. Eng 0-0published at 08:03 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

Mitchell Starc is going to bowl despite his injury scare which is good to see. We don't want to see a player injured.

Rory Burns has reverted to taking the first ball.

    Good luck...

Here come Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed.

The Australia players are all grinning in their huddle. They can't wait to get going.

England have more than four sessions to bat to save a draw.

The TV cameras are zoomed in on Mitchell Starc running through some warm-up deliveries.

Did he injure himself in that batting innings? He seemed to tweak his back but still hit a six moments later...

    So much has happened today.

England took 3-7 in the morning session and Australia were 59-4. They then started bowling too short again and Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne smashed Australia out of any hint of trouble.

Spinners have now taken eight wickets in this match with Nathan Lyon to come in the final innings.
