Joshua Hickin: What an utterly pointless break in play. Zzzzzzz. Test cricket doing what it does best by trying to play as little as possible.
Five days into 2022 and I'm getting angry about rain delays.

The shower we just had was about 43 seconds. If it was a one-day game they wouldn't have come off.
Why does cricket do this?! What difference will six minutes make?
And surely, with a forecast this bad, you want to be playing as much as you can when it is dry?
It's not raining.
There's no cricket, because we're going to wait six minutes to restart play.
Why?!

Jack Leach has bowled really nicely to the right-hander. To the left-hander he has bowled round the wicket and bowled defensively as you would in a one-day game when you try to control the run-rate with boundary sweepers. If he comes over the wicket instead to the left-hander he'll be hitting the danger zone to take a wicket.
The stumps are back in the ground, which implies a resumption is imminent.

There's not a splodge of rain on the radar so I think we'll be back on really soon.

Yep, off comes the big cover!
I think it might have stopped...
The SCG groundstaff charge onto the pitch like they're racing at the Olympics. It's impressive.

Here we go again. It's time to pull out the radars and figure out when we'll be back on.
Well, we managed 45 whole minutes.
There are groundstaff lurking...

Mark Burt: Never mind Broad, nothing short of a miracle could’ve changed the outcome of this series. England simply aren’t competitive and Australia, despite never getting out of second gear, have been excellent across the board.
I still think this field is too defensive for Jack Leach. I know why - England are wary after that mauling at the Gabba - but I just don't think it should be this easy to work the singles and let the batters work their way into a rhythm against the spin.
Andy Zaltzman
BBC Test Match Special statistician
Jack Leach has bowled 31 overs in the series and still no maidens. Australia have got on top of him early on and he's had defensive fields. James Anderson has bowled 31 maidens on his own in 76 overs.
Usman Khawaja shows some good judgement outside his off stump to come unscathed through Jimmy Anderson's latest over.
