    Another maiden from Scott Boland.

That is six in a row now. Yes, England haven't scored a single run for 36 balls. The pressure has already brought about one wicket - will it bring another?

Lunch is at 02:30 GMT remember, so about 12 minutes to go.

Saqub: England's batters have had little preparation say some people. Khawaja with no match practice for weeks but he turns up and scores a 100. Khawaja averages 40 in Test cricket. Only Root averages more for England. Our batting is poor.

  4. Eng 36-2published at 18 overs

Dawid Malan plays out another maiden from Cameron Green. Malan is on three from 28 balls so far. He's having to be very patient.

Joe Root is the new batter by the way. Him coming in with 36 runs on the board is actually decent compared to some recent times...

Scott Boland has figures of 1-0 now.

That is to go with his 6-7 last week.

He must think Test cricket is the easiest thing in the world.

    Ian Chappell
Former Australia captain on Test Match Special

It's a good piece of bowling but the good news for Australia is they've hit the stumps twice. That's an indication that you need to bowl at the stumps pretty regularly. Crawley was within his rights to be looking for the drive but he got one that cut back quite a way.

Would you believe it? That's an excellent delivery.

    Crawley b Boland 18 (Eng 36-2)

Through the gate! Scott Boland cannot stop taking wickets.

It is a good piece of bowling from Boland - it is a good length and there is a little bit of nip back to go through the drive of Zak Crawley.

It is a relatively loose shot though, I think. His feet and trigger movements didn't seem quite right there. I am no batting expert at all, but on one replay his front foot looks a bit stuck and he almost lifts and drags it forward after he's been beaten.

Cameron Green also starts with a maiden.

He tempts Dawid Malan into a loose, and perhaps lazy, cut shot, but thankfully it evades the edge.

    A double change for Australia.

Cameron Green - who needs to keep delivering with the ball considering his wretched series with the bat - replaces Mitchell Starc.

Here's the moment that Zak Crawley was dropped on seven by Marcus Harris. It would have been a blinder to be honest.

He also had this let-off last night...

  14. Eng 36-1published at 15 overs

A maiden to start from Scott Boland. He got a very good welcome from the SCG crowd when he came on.

Nothing too threatening in that over to be honest.

  15. Postpublished at 01:56 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2022

As I predicted, a change for Australia.

Scott Boland, who took 6-7 on debut in England's second innings at Melbourne last week, replaces captain Pat Cummins.

Dave May: That is an embarrassment for a Test opener. Surely Hameed has played his last game. Appalling shot.

  17. Eng 36-1published at 14 overs

Dawid Malan blocks and leaves a maiden out from Mitchell Starc.

We're 35 minutes away from lunch. England would really like to only be one down when the interval arrives.

    Alex Hartley
England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

The ball that Hameed was dropped on was a better ball than the one that got him out. It was a poor shot and a shot from somebody that has had a really tough series. He was in no position to play it.
