Mark Wood has two this morning! Is the door creeping open for England?

Wood has had a fantastic series. His extra pace and bounce again makes an Australian batter uncomfortable and Travis Head strangles one down the leg side. It just glanced off the glove.

Head shaked his head initially, but that is more out of disappointment because he trudges off as soon as the finger is raised.

Here's how Mark Wood got the wicket of nightwatchman Scott Boland...

Travis Head is in some nick, isn't he? He crashes away a full-blooded drive, which Rory Burns does well to cut off on the cover boundary and give it down to just a couple.

England have hit the pads a fair bit this morning. There's another appeal from Stuart Broad and co, but again it is pitching outside leg.

The lead is creeping up. England will rue that first innings.

Good over from Mark Wood, mixing it up with shorter balls that has Travis Head ducking and fuller balls that test the left-handers defence.

There is half an appeal for lbw, but the ball was pitching a good way outside leg stump.

You never know, if Broad plays as long as Jimmy, then he could be back here in four years.

Lovely shot. Travis Head picks up his first boundary with a gorgeous on-drive. It had just enough on it, despite a brush off the fingertips of Stuart Broad, to reach the rope.

Oh. Beauty. Broad responds by sliding one past the outside edge of Head.

Broad looks very stiff this morning. Will today be the final time we see him in a Test in Australia? He'll be 39 next time England tour down under.

I'm a big fan of Sam Billings as a cricketer, and from my sole dealing with him he is a lovely bloke.

But, he made 29. Let's not get too excited, yeah?

Looking in the bright side even if this is the last day of test cricket for a while the most important gain of the tour is we have found two more possible wicket keeper batsmen in Pope and Billings. So now we have at least 5 and poor old Foakes with a test average of 44 and best gloves in country is going down the list not up it !! Just bizarre.

Travis Head, who cracked a 112-ball ton in the first innings, is the new batter. It was the second time he has counter-attacked England to good effect in the series. If he manages it again, the game is over. England need to get him quickly.

Extra bounce results in him spooning one to where a square leg would have been, before he gets off the mark with a more controlled flick off his hips.

There was extra bounce from Wood. It slightly left Boland, who was fending away from his body. That's exactly what England wanted.

    Boland c Billings c Wood 8 (Aus 47-4)

    England have got the nightwatchman.

Good bowling again from Mark Wood - who is England's leading wicket taker in the series - as a little bit of extra bounce and movement away from Scott Boland results in a feather through to Sam Billings.

Boland has more than done his job, though.

Broad is like a child in the playground looking for someone to play with and everyone has turned his back on him.

Broad is determined this should be out. He can't believe it. Again, it is just going over the top I am afraid, Stuart.

Stuart Broad is getting very excited this morning. The celebrappeal is out in full force not once, but twice in the over.

Both are reasonable shouts, with Steve Smith shuffling across to outside off stump but being hit bang in front.

England discuss a review both times, but both times opt against, and wisely with the technology showing the ball would have been going over the top.

Broad genuinely couldn't believe England weren't interested in the review. He stood around staring at everyone, hands on hips, and then lurked for a good while after the timer ticked to zero.

Nathan Lyon has looked better with the bat than Davey Warner in recent weeks to be fair.

Steve Smith picks up the first actual boundary of the day with a flick through square leg.

England have been too full so far.

I had a good text exchange with Travis Head this morning who is due to be my captain in the summer at Sussex.

He said Australia had all of the bowlers padded up last night ready to sacrifice them in the final session.

  18. Aus 43-3published at 21 overs

Scott Boland picks up a single with a sliced drive that is parried by Rory Burns at gully, before Steve Smith keeps the strike with one off his hips.

The weather conditions aren't conducive to any movement at the moment and based on the first 12 balls it looks fairly easy work for Australia.

An all-run four! One of the great things in cricket.

Nightwatchman Scott Boland plays a lovely on-drive to move to seven.

He's going to bat for at least an hour, isn't he?

It will be the pace of Mark Wood from the other end.

I had yesterday off but I was delighted to wake up and see he'd taken wickets. He had a horror of a day one, but he has had a good series and deserves some rewards in this game.
