It was then time for the debutant Matty Potts to get in on the fun.

He picked up Kane Williamson for his first wicket in Test cricket (not bad, eh?) before bowling Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell.

New Zealand were 39-6 at lunch and in serious trouble.

Jimmy Anderson (remember him?) got England off to the perfect start by getting rid of both New Zealand openers, Will Young and Tom Latham, with the new ball.

Stuart Broad then chipped in with the dismissal of Devon Conway.

    Thanks Tom.

How are you all? A long weekend (for you lot!) AND England bowling a side out within two sessions. What a time.

We'll run through the 10 wickets that England got during the interval.

As the players head in for what will no doubt be another legendary Lord's tea, it is also time for me to grab a break (though my tea won't be as impressive, sadly).

I will leave you in the more than capable hands of Callum Matthews.

There were a few alarm bells there. They could have been run out three of four times but a good day for England so far.

  6. Eng 19-0published at 6 overs

That's a more sensible single from Zak Crawley to end the other and that's tea.

Not the most fluid of innings so far but England's openers have survived what could have been a tricky few overs.

They are 19-0 and trail by 113. A first innings lead will be on their mind in the final session.

  7. Eng 18-0published at 5.4 overs

A leading edge from Zak Crawley squirts into the air but lands safely in the off-side.

They have had a touch of fortune in this innings so far.

    Do they scald ferrets?

Lees has done that a couple of times. He needs to calm down. He would have been gone by three yards. He is like a scalded ferret.

  12. Eng 16-0published at 5.1 overs

Oh my, Alex Lees is at it again!

He scrambles for another single that was never really there and would have been out by a mile had Ajaz Patel's throw hit the stumps.

  13. Eng 15-0published at 5 overs

More runs for Zak Crawley as he guides the ball fine past gully for two.

It's a watchful rest of the over from the England opener though. Tea on his mind - probably one more over to go.

Crawley's drive is his strength and his weakness. I would think to myself to put it away until you get to 20.

  15. Eng 13-0published at 4 overs

    Great shot, great stop.

It looked four all the way as Zak Crawley plays a lovely cover drive, but Kane Williamson makes a superb diving stop to save three runs.

Lees looks like one of those chaps who you need to learn how he runs. He takes three steps down even when he has hit it to the fielder. It can be very off-putting.

  17. Eng 9-0published at 2.3 overs

That's a bit too full from Tim Southee and Zak Crawley flicks the ball off his pads around the corner for England's first boundary of the innings.

That should settle him down a bit.

  18. Postpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 2 June 2022

There are still 46 overs scheduled to be played today and we are 15 minutes away from tea. Remarkable.

Tim Southee will definitely offer Zak Crawley the drive - it is an absolute guarantee. It's fascinating to see what he'll do with the half volleys he gets offered.

  20. Eng 4-0published at 2 overs

"No, no" Alex Lees shouts confidently as he clips the ball straight to a fielder in the onside for no run.

As if the previous over didn't happen.
