Given Ben Foakes is at the other end, that is an awful shot from Stuart Broad.
Jimmy Anderson is England's number 10. They still trail by seven.

It was entertaining but it was brief.
Broad b Southee 9 (Eng 125-8)
Ah. It was fun while it lasted.
Stuart Broad tries to smash Tim Southee again but this time has his stumps splattered after missing the ball completely.
We're nine balls in and we have our first wicket.
Yep, watch out if you're wandering the streets of St John's Wood.
Stuart Broad tries to heave the second ball. If he had connected it would have gone a mile.

If it's up, it's off with Broad this morning.
Slammed down the ground by Stuart Broad! Tim Southee has a wry smile on his face after his first delivery.
This could be fun.
Foakes 6, Broad 5
Boult reveals bright red soles on his shoes as he runs in from in front of the pavilion. Ben Foakes, his beard looking as well groomed as ever behind his grille, watches three deliveries go by outside off stump. A decent comeback from Boult.
Four byes to start! Lord's cheers in unison.
There's no friendly opening from Trent Boult who tries to take Stuart Broad's head off with a bouncer. Broad evades it and the ball flies over the keeper all the way to the boundary.

Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
Stuart Broad will play some shots. He will like this situation because he can have a little impact here.
If England get a 40-50 run lead that could be absolute gold dust in a low scoring game.
Trail by 16
There's some high cloud over Lord's. Trent Boult has the ball in hand. Stuart Broad and Ben Foakes are out there. Broad has his bandana under his helmet.
Can England get themselves a lead?

The frustrating thing for me as an England supporter is that every time this batting line-up is put under pressure they cannot withstand it.
They weren't even under that much pressure yesterday, they had done all the hard work getting to 59-0.
New Zealand got the wicket of Crawley, stopped England scoring. That was the time to soak up the pressure. Pope nearly did that but once he was out they lost the next five wickets so quickly, and that's the bit that irritates me.
I see New Zealand players on the boundary edge. We're almost ready to go on day two.
Today should finally be the day we see Matt Parkinson bowl in England whites. He won't have wanted it to come about through a concussion to Jack Leach but it has been a long wait. I'm sure he'll be keen to get under way...

I don't mind bowlers holding sway, that's great. When a 60 or 70 means something. You don't want it the other way either, when teams are scoring 500 or 600. But it was too one way yesterday.
It nibbled and the pitch was dented a little bit, there was a bit of moisture early on. It was a good toss to lose and I thought England got the better of the conditions.
But neither side were able to set their stall out. It was a poor piece of cricket in terms of batting.
There should be no problems with the weather today...

There's quite a crowd watching Jonny Bairstow have a net on the Nursery Ground. Marcus Trescothick is throwing balls, replicating Trent Boult's left-arm angle that did for Bairstow yesterday.
YJB isn't just batting, but entertaining, too. Chatting, cracking jokes. When he tells Tresco of a particular technical issue (I didn't quite catch what it was) he turns to the crowd and says "keep that to yourselves".

My colleague Stephan Shemilt has written his thoughts on Ben Stokes' "crash course in England captaincy" on day one.
"For as much as watching England is regularly an exercise in absurdity, it was particularly special for this side to be both new England and old England in the space of a couple of hours at Lord's," he said.
"Neither captain Ben Stokes nor coach Brendon McCullum would have been naive enough to think that bowling out New Zealand for 132 was the instant fixing of a broken team that had won only one of its past 17 Tests."
"But even they must have been surprised at how quickly they were given a demonstration of the size of the task ahead of them."
