I want to see a couple of hundreds from this England side.
You're not going to get a better chance to dig one out.

Oh! Ollie Pope is lucky not to edge that. It was quite wide but he was aiming for mid-off.
Pope edges and it's lands short of Tom Latham second slip. The England number three then drives at one outside off stump and is fortunate not to edge it.
Good over. There's a little bit of something happening for Trent Broult.

Tim Southee hasn't quite made England play yet. The ball is swinging but he's been a bit wide, maybe he's just trying to lure Ollie Pope in and then he'll bowl the wobble seam.
Some swing for Southee but a wide line does not trouble Ollie Pope. The New Zealand seamer, perhaps predictably, shapes one into Pope who tucks off his hips for a single to end the over.

Olle Pope is very strong through the off side but he can be vulnerable there too. He's more of a square driver too so it does means the face of the bat can be open.
Ollie Pope gently pushes towards cover and runs three. Solid looking shot for his first runs of the day.

Trent Boult will provide the biggest threat today - he does swing the ball in but he can also take it away from the right hander as we saw with Zak Crawley yesterday.
Lees shoulders his arms and comfortably leaves the remaining deliveries. Good early signs for England - the pitch not offering too much for Southee.
Brendon McCullum is sipping on a coffee on the England balcony. Joe Root is fiddling with his bat in the background. The hosts will be hoping he remains there for a good while.

That is a really positive start from Alex Lees. He got to the bounce of the ball and it was more of a push drive.
He's looked a lot more positive - it doesn't look like he's just coming in to survive.

Oh, wonderful shot. Wow. He's just leant on that.
Gorgeous! Lees leans in and drills it down to the square-leg boundary.

New Zealand will go through their routine and start with Trent Boult and Tim Southee but then I would be getting in the spin of Michael Bracewell.

Alex Lees drives at one outside off stump and it deflects into his pads. England will need to be watchful early on.

I did enjoy listening in yesterday - you can picture it all from listening. I can normally see all the expressions and everything else but you can see them via listening too.
The sun is beaming down in Nottingham. Tim Southee has the ball in his hand. And Jonathan Agnew is back in the TMS hotseat after missing yesterday to attend a wedding.
All is well. Here we go.

Just coming into the ground, walking down Radcliffe Road. There's a guy in his car, windows down, belting out Five's 'Everybody Get Up'. The whole street can here. Not a care in the world. Fair play to him.

Dobs: I predict a loss of quick wickets. Somewhat of a rally around one of Root, Stokes or Bairstow... followed by a late afternoon collapse and NZ putting on 100 runs in the evening and 30 minutes at the England openers.

Batting three is a difficult spot. You feel like you're doing OK but your technique does get exposed more.
The bowlers are still generally fresh and have got a new ball to work with.
Ollie Pope did play a couple of loose shots yesterday but he's still learning that role and he'll want to learn from Joe Root and Kane Williamson and others who have played that role. He does follow the ball with his wrists a little bit, so it just reigning that in a little bit because he does have all the shots.
