Is Julian from Cheshire a bit hangry? How can you completely dismiss such a great innings? New Zealand aren't cricket also-rans, they are the Test champions!
Zarina, West Midlands
Ben Foakes departed for 56 after this mix-up with Matthew Potts...

Vineet Jacob: It is hard to think that Michael Bracewell was a wicketkeeper-batter and began bowling off-spin just about two years ago. I think New Zealand have found a very good off-spinner out of nowhere.
Root’s dismissal sparked an England collapse. Which isn’t too much of an issue when you’ve already scored 500 plus.
Daryl Mitchell finally held onto a catch to dismiss Stuart Broad...
Here are the scores on the doors in the eight County Championship games taking place across the country.
Division One leaders Surrey have reached 151-2 at lunch against Somerset, with Rory Burns unbeaten on 97.
Yorkshire are all out for 428 as Hampshire's Brad Wheal bowls last man Steven Patterson to end with 4-59 having taken the final four wickets.
Liam Norwell has removed Josh Bohannon for 18 to reduce Lancashire to 72-2 in reply to Warwickshire's 292.
Kent have lost Ollie Robinson early in their reply to Gloucestershire's 428. They are 41-1 at lunch.
In Division Two, Rachin Ravindra's mammoth debut innings has finally comes to an end at Chester-le-Street.

Hmmm. That's going to ruffle a few feathers, Julian.
England’s star man was eventually dismissed for a sensational 176. He was frustrated at not converting his score into a double century. We’ll let it slide, Joe.

Maybe rein in the hyperbole over Root's innings? He hit one between the slips on 20, was dropped on 27, and skied one safe on 52. Great to see him make big runs, even on an absolute road like this one, but talk of a batting masterclass is a bit OTT.
Julian Karswell, Cheshire.
Root, meanwhile, continued to show us just why he is already an England great. This shot was just, well, ridiculous. No other word for it...
Ben Foakes played a somewhat supporting role to Joe Root last night but played with more intent this morning. The England wicketkeeper proved his worth, reaching a fluent half-century...

Absolutely outstanding game of cricket. Over 1000 runs scored across the first innings, with four centuries. All three results still possible, Test cricket at its finest!
Dale, Swindon
I'll try my best, Callum.
Well then. This game moved at some pace in the first session. I think we'll have a better idea by tea as to where this game is handing.
Time for me to grab a break and get some lunch.
Kal Sajad is here to take you through the afternoon session. Hopefully he can take some wickets.

At least there is a bit of something to work with for England. There is a little bit more for the bowlers. But they need to get three or four quickly before it gets 30 overs old.
NZ 27-1; lead by 41
A tidy start from Matthew Potts, conceding just two. And that's lunch.
It has been an action-packed morning with England losing five wickets for 66 runs before James Anderson took wicket 650 in Test cricket.
It is well poised.
A change of bowling for England.
Matthew Potts will replace James Anderson for the over before lunch.

When you consider how poor the England cricket team have been in recent years, the side has contained probably one of the greatest England bowlers and certainly one of its greatest batsmen of all time, and probably one of its best all-rounders. Mad.
Simon Thompson, Bristol
Lead by 39
Lovely from Devon Conway. Pure timing brings him four more through mid-off.
England will want rid of him quickly - he's very dangerous because he can hang around for a long time.
Time for one more over before lunch.

BBC Test Match Special commentator
I think he was trying to leave that. A strange shot.
