Oh! James Anderson squares Devon Conway up a little bit and the ball flies off the edge - high up the bat - and loops over the slip cordon.

Joe Root sprints after it and does brilliantly to flick it back in and save a couple. It's always nervy moments when fielders do that, but Root did well.

Oh! A little bit of movement and Stuart Broad has the ball snaking in past the inside edge of a defending Devon Conway. That gets England excited.

They are screaming "catchhhh" moments later as Conway chips an on-drive but it's nowhere near a fielder and the left-hander picks up four.

It has settled down a little bit.

    Wicket 650 for James Anderson.

    A once-in-a-lifetime bowler.

  5. NZ 13-1published at 5 overs

    Lead by 27

A tidy over from James Anderson with just a flicked single conceded to Devon Conway.

There are plenty of empty seats at Trent Bridge today. If you're near the area get yourself there - the rest of the day could be very lively.

We've been here three days and haven't seen it move like this. There could be something in the surface.

    Nice shot.

Will Young leans on an on-drive to get off the mark with a gorgeous four.

With just under 20 minutes until lunch England will want another wicket before then.

A little bit high, maybe. It would have gone over the top. That's a nasty stinger on the inside thigh.

Appeals from England as Devon Conway is struck on the back thigh, but it's too high and James Anderson doesn't even entertain chat of a review.

Oh, shot. Anderson goes a tad fuller and Conway off-drives. Alex Lees hurtles after it and does flick it back - before crashing his right ankle and shin into the advertising boards - but they run four anyway.

Another appeal for lbw as Anderson again hits Conway but it's too high.

"It's happening boys", shouts Jonny Bairstow.

What is going on out there? It's jagging around like nobody's business.

  12. NZ 4-1published at 2.3 overs

The ball is absolutely hooping around.

Devon Conway is looking to defend and the ball jags past him and Ben Foakes has to collect way down the leg side.

Keep your eyes on this game.

He was right to leave that. It must have hit a crack or something - it came miles back.

Unsurprisingly it's Stuart Broad from the other end.

He starts by sliding one past the edge of a prodding Will Young, before one jags back from a good few inches outside off-stump and just misses the stumps.

Yeesh, that will put the fear into any batter.

Broad is gesturing towards the crowd. They respond. It's loud in Nottingham.

Kevin Ticehurst: 650 wickets for quite simply the greatest bowler this country has ever produced.

What an achievement for Jimmy. The want and the will to continue and to play Test match cricket. Still delivering such a high-quality performance.

Yelps and screams from around Trent Bridge - mainly from the crowd - as James Anderson slides one down the leg side of Devon Conway and there's a brief feeling it grazed the glove.

England and Anderson aren't excited. The 39-year-old just slicks his hair back, collects his cap and strolls away.

    What a start for England.

What a misjudgment from Latham. It's just gone straight.
