New Zealand have a decision to make. Do they grind it out for four sessions or do they push on and try to set England something like 300 off 60?
Lead by 136
Short and wide from Matthew Potts and Will Youngs smacks away a cut.
Poor ball and it got the treatment that it deserved.
It does slightly feel like this game is meandering.

Stickytoffee-Lewin: Say it loudly - the energy turnaround in just one and a half Tests under Stokes/McCullum is remarkable.

It's a shame this is on a Monday. If this was a Sunday, the crowd would be roaring England on for wickets now.
Lead by 130
Will Young will keep the strike after tucking Ben Stokes off his hip for a single.
It's quite quiet and sedate at Trent Bridge at the moment. It is only about a quarter-full today.

England keep chipping away. Because they keep taking wickets, the scoring rate stays low and maybe England can chase 250 comfortably tomorrow.
Nicholls c Lees b Potts (NZ 115-3)
Slashed straight to backward point!
Henry Nicholls' eyes light up as Matthew Potts offers him some width and he slashes hard at a cut shot. He is thinking four all the way but it is straight to Alex Lees, who takes a good catch because it travelled quickly.
Was there a little bit of extra bounce there for Potts? There is a big leap, fist pump and "comeeee onnnn" in celebration from the Durham man.
An ideal start for England. Can they go on a roll now?

Will Young has played nicely. James Andeson caused him some problems, challenging the outside edge, but he's reached his 50. That's his sixth 50 without reaching a hundred, which will be on his mind.
Good running.
A quick single allows Will Young to get through for his sixth Test match half-century.
Can he convert it to a maiden ton?
The players are back out at Trent Bridge.
You feel like England need a burst of wickets in this session if they are going to force a victory.
New Zealand are the side who need to force the game with a 1-0 series deficit at the moment, surely? We haven't seen any obvious signs of that so far.

In case you're just checking in for the first time today, here's a reminder of what happened during the England innings this morning.
They added 66 runs for their final five wickets this morning - it was all slightly chaotic to be honest.
They absolutely flew out the traps, adding 43 runs in the opening five overs, before they started to collapse when Joe Root perished for 176.
Here's the other wicket to fall too, that of stand-in captain Tom Latham.
The strike was Anderson's 650th in Test cricket. How many will he end up with?
Thanks Kal.
I come with a gift - the video of the Devon Conway wicket.
Enjoy.
On TMS right now, Matt Root - dad to a certain Joe - is having a bit of a chinwag with Aggers. Well worth a listen - who knows what we might find out.
That's me done for now. Over to you, Callum Matthews.

Fran Adam: NZ are notoriously not aggressive, but Leach is being pounded yet again like he was in Australia. He’s not remotely good enough. Time for England to just admit they don’t have a good enough spinner and play four quicks.
Young 49, Nicholls 3
Ben Stokes is giving it everything. So much so that he oversteps the mark, not for the first time, with a no-ball.
Alas, England can't take a third New Zealand wicket as we head to the tea break.
New Zealand lead by 128.

Well done, Ben Stokes. It's an attacking field with a vacant area encouraging the batter to hit into the leg side.
Nicholls 1, Young 49
Will Young top-edges towards the long leg region. There's no fielder out there as the ball, despite a Joe Root chase, trickles over the boundary for four.
Leach darts in a fuller delivery on middle and leg. Nicholls mistimes a sweep and is struck on his gloves and then pad. A halfhearted shout for lbw from England's fielders.
