Broad is not going to hang around. He really gave that a good solid thwack.

Don't apologise just to Mr Overton, Chris, apologise to the English public. And say it like you mean it.
Now then! Stuart Broad slaps Trent Boult through extra cover for four. Wallop.

I apologise to Mr Overton, I'd been listening all morning whilst out and about in the car, just got home and synced your commentary up with the tv pictures to watch him snick off. Should have stayed in the car.

Broad has another swing and a miss. He's yet to get off the mark.
We've had 50 minutes of play already. Time flies when watching this England team.

That was almost hit in anger at seeing his batting partner dismissed.

Benjamin Copp: Gutted for Jamie Overton but what a knock. Coming in when he did, that's what's important.
England send Stuart Broad in ahead of Matthew Potts.
Broad, who turned 36 yesterday, drives and misses. Will Jonny Bairstow up the intensity now that Overton has gone?

That’s brutal for Jamie Overton. He takes a huge swipe at the boundary sponge with his bat on his way off.
But he gets a huge ovation from the Headingley crowd. Initial groans turn to loud cheers.
Jonny Bairstow runs over to pat him on the back and give a word in his ear too.

Overton will feel dreadful right now but he shouldn't. He was played a remarkable innings.
A truly brilliant effort from a number eight.
Overton c Mitchell b Boult 97 (Eng 297-6)
Heartbreak for Jamie Overton!
The debutant had played and missed on a number of occasions to Trent Boult but his luck finally runs out. He edges to first slip and Daryl Mitchell takes a catch low down.
Overton is absolutely gutted as Bairstow runs over and embraces his team-mate.
But what a fantastic innings it has been. Hold your head up high.

I suspect a fair number of white-ball players would fancy a go I this test side. Phil Salt for opener?

Bairstow takes a single off the first ball. Trent Boult to Jamie Overton. He needs three runs for a century and there are five balls remaining.
Expect a huge roar from the Headingley crowd if and when it happens.

It is worth mentioning the passing of Harry Gration yesterday? He was a great Yorkshireman, a sports commentator and a cricket fan. I was in a pub in Headingley when the news broke yesterday and there was genuine sadness. He was a lovely man and would have loved a day of cricket like today.
Matthew, Bradford

Overton has been so solid in defence throughout his innings. He confidently blocks out a swinging delivery from Wagner.
Bairstow and Overton take a single apiece to Neil Wagner. Bairstow helps himself to one more.
Over to you, Jamie. He's on 97.

Half of the Western Terrace are singing "Oh Jonny Bairstow, you are the love of my life" and the other chanting "Yorkshire! Yorkshire!"

Wow, what a knock this has been by Jonny Bairstow.
It has transformed England's chances in this match and he still has time to double it up.
Eng 292-6
Ohhhh Jonny Jonny! The Yorkshireman reaches 150 for the third time in 86 Tests. Sublime. Pure class.
