Adam Durrant: The big difference between the innings so far is the insane speed that England rack up runs. NZ 117.3 overs for their total, England 65 behind in under 50. That's with Root and Stokes going cheaply as well, and those two can score quickly as well.

One of the big talking points from earlier in the day on Friday was DRS going down, meaning Tom Blundell was unable to review an lbw decision.

Should I jinx a potential stat? If Jamie Overton gets the 11 runs needed to reach 100 he will become only the second England player to take a wicket and score a century on their Test debut since WG Grace in the first ever Test match played in this country in 1888.

Bairstow will be on strike when England resume in five minutes time. At the other end, Jamie Overton is just 11 runs shy of scoring a century on debut.

I'll never get bored of watching this celebration.

Jonny Bairstow was asked in his press conference last night whether Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum had anything to say at tea about how to approach the final session.

"Nope," he said plainly.

"Literally there wasn't anything said," he added after an awkward pause.

I wonder what, if anything, has been said this morning. McCullum has had a good look at the pitch before play.

There are more fluffy clouds around today and I'd say it's cooler than the last couple of days. It doesn't feel like there's any threat of rain, however.

A few days ago, it was forecasted to rain for parts of this Test. We got away with it yesterday and (whisper it quietly) it looks as if we could have another dry one today. Our man at the ground, Matthew Henry, can tell us more.

Yesterday was, well, ridiculous.

New Zealand were bowled out for 329. A combination of exceptional bowling, particularly from Trent Boult, coupled with England giving their wickets away resulted in the hosts falling to 55-6.

Then, quite remarkably, Jonny Bairstow and debutant Jamie Overton fought back in sensational fashion.

They shared an unbeaten stand of 209 runs off 223 balls as England ended the day on 264-6.

Madness.
