  1. Eng 3-0published at 2 overs

    Target 334

A solid recovery from Ngidi after his no-ball.

Jonny Bairstow had to take some time off the field earlier and looked absolutely cooked when he returned. This will be really hard work, but he is one of the fittest members of this England squad.

  2. Eng 2-0published at 1.2 overs

Bairstow clips a single off his legs and that'll be England's first run off the bat.

Ngidi just looks like he hasn't quite found his run up yet.

He's a good couple of inches over there as well.

That's just criminal, you've built this pressure with a maiden over and then your fast bowler oversteps.

  5. Eng 1-0published at 1.1 overs

Lungi Ngidi bowls a no-ball first up that results in a free hit, but the follow-up ball is a very well directed yorker that Bairstow can only jam his bat down on.

Keshav Maharaj is keeping it flat and quick so far, not giving the ball much air.

  7. Eng 0-0published at 1 over

    Target 334

A maiden to start from Keshav Maharaj.

South Africa's batters did a fine job out there and kept England in the sweltering heat for 50 overs. It's now time for the bowlers to pay them back.

But it won't be easy - it's a very flat pitch with the ball barely doing anything when England had it in hand.

I think England will be quite confident. It looks a really good wicket. Interestingly, South Africa are going to open with spin.

  9. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

A scratchy drive from Jason Roy first ball but he survives.

Opening with spin is an interesting choice.

Thanks, Callum. The temptation to have a nap during that 35 minute break was real.

Thankfully I was able to resist and I'm more than ready to take you through the start of England's pursuit of 334.

Keshav Maharaj is going to open the bowling for South Africa, and Jason Roy to face the first ball.

Right time for me and to go and have a break and have some food (I'm not going to start the tea/dinner debate today!).

Fresh from a lie down Ffion Wynne is here to take you through the first part of England's chase.

Pitched Outside Leg: If I was batting seven or eight for South Africa, I'd be treating Rassie van der Dussen to a large cold one tonight for letting me stay in the cool of the dressing room until early evening.

South Africa were looking like scoring more than 350 at one stage. It could have got away from England so they have pulled it back really well.

The game will go deep. It won't be done in 40 overs. They've got to keep wickets in hand.

It feels like England won the latter stages of that innings. They will take the momentum into their batting.

Brydon Carse is largely in this England side to bowl in the middle overs.

If you think back to Liam Plunkett in England's 2019 World Cup success he is in the side to play that role. He banged it into the pitch well and made excellent use of the big square boundaries and bowled economically.

He got a deserved wicket in the final over as Heinrich Klaasen picked out long-on. To bowl the 48th and 50th over and only concede 12 was a brilliant effort.

It is hard to say 333 is a below par score - and it may well not be because England could be exhausted after almost four hours in the field - but it may well end up being short.

England bowled well at the death and it could have been even better but David Miller had a fair bit of luck in his 14-ball 24.

He inside edged onto this stumps but somehow survived, before another inside edge just missed leg stump.

Liam Livingstone's bowling has got better and better over the last few years. It took him a while to get used to bowling both leg and off spin but he's fast becoming a great option as a third spinner.

With Ben Stokes retiring, they've got another fine all-rounder in Livingstone. As tough as Ben is to replace, Livingstone does give them that extra bowling option especially in the subcontinent.

Both Markram and Van der Dussen fell to Liam Livingstone in the 46th over.

It was a good bowling change from captain Jos Buttler, with Livingstone just bowling that one over.

Aiden Markram also played really nicely for his 61-ball 77.

He is a curious case. He is a very talented player, but is still yet to hit an ODI century.

It felt like today was a missed opportunity to change that.

We then saw Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram share 151 off 122 balls for the second wicket.

Let's start with Van der Dussen. He made his third ODI century in hitting 133 off 117 balls.

He only hit 10 fours, but brilliantly manipulated the strike and played the Joe Root role for the tourists.
