We've talked about how big those square boundaries are and Aiden Markram tried to clear one of them.

It's smart captaincy from Buttler, bringing Livingstone back on and not giving the batters any pace to work with.

  2. wicket

    Markram c Bairstow b Livingstone 77 (SA 295-3)

    A wicket!

Aiden Markram looks to slog sweep away, but Jonny Bairstow settles himself on the mid-wicket boundary and takes the catch about a yard in from the rope.

It brings an end to a stand that was worth 151 from 122 balls. England needed it.

Can they build some dot balls at the new batter and keep their chase down?

  3. Not outpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 19 July 2022

There is too much spin and grip there for Liam Livingstone, with the technology showing it would have gone on to miss off stump.

It looks like it's outside the line of off stump.

  5. England reviewpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 19 July 2022

    Hmmmm.

Has Liam Livingstone got Rassie van der Dussen trapped lbw as he looks to reverse sweep?

It's important England keep their standards up and don't let this slip away. It is going to be difficult, but crucial.

    The end is close.

Oh, we're going to see Liam Livingstone have a bowl.

Aiden Markram took a liking to him earlier so this could get messy.

There are some tired shots from Van der Dussen now.

  9. SA 292-2published at 45 overs

A good final over from Adil Rashid as he concedes just five singles.

He finishes with 0-63 from his 10 overs though. South Africa have played him really well.

A lot of talk about the bowlers but Rassie van der Dussen has done a lot of running. He has scored just 40 of his 127 in boundaries.

I'll be very surprised if we see Ben Stokes bowl any more this innings. He's walking very slowly back.

It's a lot of hard work out there.

  12. SA 287-2published at 44 overs

Van der Dussen 127, Markram 74

    Oh, Ben.

I was just about to start typing that this was a good over for England, with no boundaries conceded, but Stokes' old no-ball issue rears his head again.

The free hit only goes for a single at least. But, as is often the case, the extra ball in the over ends up going to the boundary as Aiden Markram whips through square leg.

Stokes had his hands on his knees before that free hit and we've seen Jonny Bairstow struggling too. They are arguably England's two fittest players - if they are struggling it shows how hot is actually is.

You've got to give Jonny the benefit of the doubt there. Those ones are always tough and his legs will feel heavy.

But you can tell from that over that South Africa are trying to target that area of the ground.

It was not an easy catch, but one you would expect Jonny Bairstow to take.

He tried to get his legs pumping to get there but it was very low to the ground. He may have slipped when he went to take it, actually.

  15. dropped catch

Van der Dussen dropped on 121published at 43 overs

    SA 275-2

Perfect placement. Adil Rashid drops short and Rassie van der Dussen thumps him perfectly between long-on and mid-wicket.

He goes again with a slog sweep that drops into the gap for a couple, before another is in the direction of Jonny Bairstow, but he seems to misjudges it and spills a low catch.

England could have done with that sticking.

Rassie van der Dussen has been brilliant.

Enjoy the best shots from his third ODI century...

Markram got hold of that first four really well. It wasn't far off from being our first six of the match.

  18. SA 265-2published at 42 overs

Van der Dussen 115, Markram 65

    Lovely.

Back-to-back boundaries from Aiden Markram as he pushes his foot down on the accelerator.

He crunches a short-arm jab away again - he plays that shot so well - before a gorgeous cover drive takes him into the 60s. A maiden ODI ton is not out of the question here.

Jonny Bairstow is off the pitch now. He was very, very red in the face.

It is hard work out there for everyone.

  20. Postpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 19 July 2022

    A double change for England.

Ben Stokes is on to replace Brydon Carse.

Will South Africa target him? He can be quite expensive at times.
