Another picture perfect cover drive, this time from Janneman Malan, who holds the pose Ian Bell style as the ball races away to the ropes.
He follows it with a straighter one, but same result. Barely a push, but that's how good this outfield is. South Africa flying along nicely.

Kay: Sam Curran is taking hair tips from Issy Wong apparently.
That is lovely.
Sam Curran offers some width and De Kock carves it elegantly past cover for another boundary. He doesn't bother running, just stands and admires his own work.

Janneman Malan is playing for the first time against England today. He has scored 828 runs in his 16 ODI innings so far, which is the most by anyone after 16 innings.

Jos Buttler will be trying to pull on Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali today to convey messages in this heat.
Potts recovers well after bowling a boundary ball and a wide, but continues to look at the footmarks with disdain.
The pitch looks great for batting. A good toss to win for South Africa, and Keshav Maharaj seems to have make the right call - unlike women's captain Sune Luus yesterday who opted to bowl first!

Short and wide is one place that you don't bowl at Quinton de Kock.

That was a bit wide from Matthew Potts and he did that old bowlers thing of kicking at the footmarks after bowling a bad ball.
Short, wide and slashed away for four by Quinton de Kock! Bit of a loosener from Potts, few nerves perhaps.
An early introduction to international white-ball cricket for Matthew Potts as he takes the second over.

No, I think this is it for him.
Ben is someone who makes a decision he then sticks to it.
If he wanted to sit out of ODIs for six months he would have said that but this is a definite end for him in this format.

I do wonder if a month before the World Cup they will knock on his door like 'fancy a World Cup?'.
Jimmy is shaking his head.
Punched nicely past cover for three runs as Janneman Malan gets South Africa off the mark.
It looks destined to go for four but it's chased all the way to the ropes and hauled in just inside by who else? Ben Stokes, of course.
They scramble a quick single from the final ball and both batters are underway.
Curran, with his bleach blonde hair still resembling some kind of attempt at a mullet, delivers a steady dot ball first up and Malan defends solidly.
Ben Stokes leads England out to the middle at Durham in his final ODI for his country. The home crowd stands for their local hero, and Quinton de Kock and Janneman Malan follow.
Sam Curran is going to take the first over.
It looks absolutely roasting. Thankfully here in Cardiff it's a practically baltic 29 degrees.

I wasn't that surprised by the Ben Stokes news. He is someone who wants to go out there and give absolutely everything for the cause and I don't think it would sit well with him if he couldn't bowl 10 overs every game and throw himself around in the field.
I did think that when he became Test captain that something would have to give. I am maybe surprised it is this soon but it is a sensible decision.
More from Ben Stokes: "I just feel like there is too much cricket rammed in for people to play all three formats now. It is a lot harder than it used to be. I look back to when I used to do all three and it didn’t feel like it was as jam-packed and all that.
"Obviously you want to play as much cricket as you possibly can but when it is making you feel tired, sore and you’ve got to look towards five or six months down the road for what you’re doing in the here and now it is probably not the best thing.
"The more cricket that is played, the better for the sport, but you want a product that is of the highest quality. You want the best players to be playing as much as you possibly can, all the time, and it isn’t just me or us.
"You see it all around the world now where teams are having to rest some players in a certain series so they feel like they are getting a break. We are not cars, you can’t just fill us up and we’ll go out there and be ready to be fuelled up again. We had a Test series and then the one-day team had a series going on at the same time – that was a bit silly."

South Africa will probably be more suited to the conditions but England are a fit side and they'll be fine.

It was inevitable that England would make some changes having playing on Sunday and then travelled yesterday. Playing an international game today would be tough on the body, especially for bowlers.
It is a great opportunity for Matthew Potts in particular.
