A fella in the pavilion has just asked me to take a picture of him, with the pitch in the background. I was happy to oblige, but it took a lot of self-control not to flip the camera around and take a selfie.
Rassie van der Dussen plays a forward defence and immediately lifts that injured hand off the bat, that hurt him. Ollie Robinson does hit the bat hard.

Leach can't quite break through. It's a lengthy spell for him in this post-lunch session.

Misbah scoring a Test hundred at Lord's aged 42 is my favourite achievement. Fitter than 99% of cricketers nowadays and accomplishing a feat most cricketers still can't do!
Usman from London
England have generations of time on their side in this match of course so there's no need to rush into a change of tack but Ben Stokes will be simmering out there soon you'd think. It's nearly 30 overs since a wicket fell.

That boundary is well played by van der Dussen and he's timed that beautifully. It's been a wicket each for Anderson, Broad and Robinson but no wickets since lunch. Can they find another one?

Emmetten Gooner: Surely Brian Close at 45 facing Michael Holding in 1976 is an act of outstanding middle aged heroism or stupidity!

It's a steady partnership between van der Dussen and Petersen.
Boooooo to you, anonymous texter.
Ollie Robinson, 12 years the junior of Jimmy Anderson and our discussion, continues to steam in. Rassie van der Dussen nearly gloves one down the leg side but just gets out of the way before he swats one away for four through square leg. That's 50 overs up.

Could we have a version please that tells us what happens on the pitch uninterrupted by opinions and thoughts of what other people have done in middle age?

Bowled! Jack Leach gets one to turn and bounce and Keegan Petersen is very close to snicking it. That's the closest to a wicket we've seen for a while.

England began the day with an early wicket, Anderson striking to dismiss the captain, but South Africa are chipping away at the deficit.
Got to the finals of the Euros as a manager as well. Not too shabby!

Ben Stokes continues to applaud his side as they toil away, this almost chanceless spell has taken the wind out of sails a touch. One brings two, and all that mind.
Alison Mitchell

England have been wicketless since lunch. It's more than a fifty partnership and Van der Dussen is playing almost one handed. Takes a little bit of expectational pressure off him.
You have to admire the arrogance of real tennis to cling on to that name don't you? Gutsy.
Ollie Robinson takes over from James Anderson, bustling in with force and purpose as ever. The ball is barely carrying to Ben Foakes at times though.

Surely the greatest middle-aged sportsman of all time and perhaps the least know is Australian Rob Fahey. He has been real tennis world champion 26 times in the last 29 years. He goes for his 27th title next month at the tender age of 54. So Jimmy's got a good few years in him yet!
