Here are the three England wickets to fall so far.
Harry Brook started his Test career in fine style.
And the rain just gets a little too heavy, so the ground staff get the covers on and the players depart.
It is also looking quite murky, so the light will potentially come into the equation if play does resume tonight.
Harry Brook plays another pleasing drive, straight down the ground for three runs off the pace of Anrich Nortje.
Nortje tests him with a short ball that he's able to fend off comfortably, just as umbrellas start to go up in the crowd...
Daniel Norcross

It's looking gloomier and gloomier. The umpires might be minded to look at the light, especially with Nortje bowling at 90 mph.

Ollie Pope takes a single to bring up England's hundred, and they edge ever closer to their first innings target.
Joe Root fell for 23 from 25 balls, trying to accelerate the scoring.
This could be a very intriguing session if Pope and Brook bat for a decent amount of time together. They are two of England's most promising young talents, but also very accomplished white-ball players.
If Ben Stokes want to move the game along considerably tonight, these two are probably the best pair to do it.

If the ball is there to be driven, he drives.
And again! A bit less convincing this time, a bit more of a flash outside off stump, but it's another boundary for Harry Brook.
A decent start to his Test career.

Lovely.

Geoffrey Boycott would have been proud of that forward defensive.
A solid forward defensive shot from Brook first ball sees off the end of Jansen's over.
Brook got a nice fist bump from Joe Root as they passed one another.

They are jubilant and rightly so, a superb catch from Petersen. He threw the kitchen sink at it but only found third slip, and that was a brilliant catch at waist height.
Root c Petersen b Jansen 23 (Eng 84-3)
What a catch! Root slashes a a very wide delivery and the ball goes very quickly to Keegan Petersen at third slip, who takes a fine diving catch. That was flying.
Marco Jansen has all three of England's wickets now.
Marco Jansen, who was by far South Africa's best bowler in the afternoon session, starts proceedings after tea and Joe Root dabs defensively to the cover fielder for no run.
Dean Elgar gathers his team in a huddle, and will need much more consistency from them in this session if they are going to get back into the game.
Joe Root and Ollie Pope sprint back to the middle. There are 45 scheduled overs left in the day.
