Ollie Pope has progressed to 38 from 41 balls.
He has been a bit frenetic, and played and missed quite a lot, but there have been some beautiful shots too.
Marco Jansen dismissed both England openers, Alex Lees first to depart for 13 before Zak Crawley was lbw for just five.
Thanks, Tim.
England are just 34 runs behind already, and this three-day game is moving on pretty quickly. Joe Root and Ollie Pope have played with intent, suggesting England will attempt to build a decent lead by the end of the day.
And now to take you through to the close, I'll hand you back to Ffion Wynne.

England's opening problem remains but Pope and Root have seized the initiative.

England are walking off very pleased with themselves.
It's been a very emotional and poignant day off the field but if there is to be a sporting celebration on the field, then England are providing it here.
Pope 38, Root 23
And that's tea with England just 34 behind - they really are rattling along.
England will have a substantial lead by stumps tonight at this rate, which could be as late as 7pm.
Pope diverts a legside Mulder delivery off his hip for his eighth four out of his 38 runs so far.
Zak Crawley reviewed after being given out, but still had to go.
Nortje is already cranking the speed up, clocking 88mph as he hits Pope on the pads outside off stump.

It feels like the game is rushing away from South Africa.
Right, here comes Anrich Nortje - he has bowled like the wind at times this summer but Ollie Pope doesn't care, driving the second past cover for an imperious boundary.
Mulder slips one outside leg stump and Root clips it away with ease for yet another boundary.
Wiaan Mulder replaces Rabada and his first delivery gets a lot of bounce and zips past Root's edge.
He drops short off the next and the ex-England skipper pulls him away for two.
Ollie Pope was quickly into his stride.

Wow. Joe Root just latched onto that, but it was far too wide.
Jansen's standards have slipped, he's wide outside off stump and Root is onto one knee to drive through cover for another four.

As a bowler in this situation, you're always searching for wickets and you are always under pressure because your team has only scored 118.
Kagiso Rabada hasn't stepped up to that pressure.
Pope moves to 30 with the shot of the day, a textbook on-drive off Rabada past Root that skims to the boundary.
