The pace of the game is moving along very quickly, and Root and Pope are definitely playing with that in mind.
There's a bit of luck for Pope has he edges through the slips for another four, but England are getting on with it here.

It's been a right mix from Kagiso Rabada. He has bowled some beauties but also some way too short.
Root picked that one up so quickly.
Rabada has frequently dropped short and he does so once again, giving Root the chance to pull him away to mid-wicket for four.
Root is off the mark with a nice flick off the pads to deep square leg for one.
Crawley lbw b Jansen 5 (Eng 43-2)
That was hitting middle and leg, right on the knee roll but he's gone and here comes Joe Root.

He didn't review that with much belief.
Crawley is given out LBW to Jansen, but we go upstairs...

Ollie Pope has been quickly on to the pull shot today. His record at this ground is incredible.
Another boundary for Ollie Pope, as he pulls Rabada away behind square leg off a huge no-ball.
Marco Jansen has bowled superbly so far, and sent Alex Lees back to the pavilion early on.
That's nice from Ollie Pope, clipping Marco Jansen to the finest of fine legs for another four.

A very good decision from Richard Kettleborough. A lot of umpires would have given that out.
Eng 28-1
Impact was outside but it was also was missing off stump, it didn't move back as much as the South Africans thought and Crawley survives.

That really nipped in sharply.
Crawley shoulders arms to Rabada, it hits the pads and eventually they review after it is given not out.
Jansen is bowling beautifully at the moment, curling one over the top of Crawley's stumps before the opener nurdles one away for a single off the last ball of the over.
And here's how South Africa's innings came to a close.
Let's recap on the end of the South Africa innings.

This going to be a big test for Ollie Pope. He looks frenetic, like he's trying too hard to be busy in the mould of Joe Root.
