  1. Ind 259-5published at 59.3 overs

Change of field and tactics for Ben Stokes, bowling round the wicket, as he resorts to a barrage of short balls to these two India batters.

No slips, but fielders stationed on the leg side looking for the miscue.

Ravindra Jadeja dodges, weaves, then pulls the third ball to the fielder along the ground.

  4. Ind 258-5published at 59.0 overs

The sun is glinting off Rishabh Pant's chunky silver bracelet just above his right glove and it flashes as he rocks on the back foot and whips Jack Leach's second ball square for four, placing it superbly between two England fielders on the rope.

India cruising, so Ben Stokes withdraws Stuart Broad and brings himself into the attack.

Can't help but feel that if this England team want to become a truly great side then they need to find something a bit different to unlock sides when the ball goes soft. Matthew Parkinson?

Tea, coffee, or something a bit stronger, perhaps? We're reaching that time of the day on a Friday after all.

Rishabh Pant is getting a bit of attention from the India team physio while England's players guzzle isotonic energy drinks.

  8. 50 runs

Fifty for Jadejapublished at 57.4 overs

Ravindra Jadeja has his half-century, with a punch wide of mid-on off Stuart Broad.

It's been an extremely valuable knock alongside the more eye-catching innings of Rishabh Pant. India have come back superbly here.

He's remained authentic and his shot selection has been good today. Whatever England have thrown at him today, he's been very good. Especially at using his feet against Leach.

Pant is such an exciting cricketer. He's one of those cricketers that if you're in the ground, you just watch. A magnificent innings! He's got there in 89 balls. Edgbaston is standing up to salute.

  12. 100 runs

Century for Pantpublished at 57.1 overs

As entertaining innings as you're ever likely to see. Inevitably, there's an element of risk about the second run which brings him his second century in England after a pull round the corner to Stuart Broad.

Pant dives to make his ground, however, and is home.

He clambers to his feet, looks to the heavens with a nod, perhaps, to his longtime coach Tarak Sinha, who passed away last November.

Pant there unfurling a big shot! It dips just below the ropes and goes for four. He's then had a huge heave at that and he's lying on his back! Knocked himself off his feet while going after that.

  14. Ind 241-5published at 57.0 overs

Jack Leach is twice whacked to the boundary in consecutive balls by Rishabh Pant, who adds court jestery to his brilliance.

His first four is a biffed over cow corner. The second he attempts to hit into next week and unfurls and almighty heave. It's such a big waft that Pant ends up on the floor, grinning to himself.

    He's on 98 now.

One thing Ben Stokes must ensure is that England bowl as many overs as possible tonight so that they're close to the second new-ball when they come out tomorrow.

  16. Ind 226-5published at 56.0 overs

Stuart Broad has his ice-white headband on, and is toiling away.

Does he put a fresh one on every bowling day? Or have several on rotation, I wonder?

His fourth ball clips Ravindra Jadeja on the pads and races away for four leg byes. England need inspiration as well as perspiration here.

These two have tried to take Leach on and have not let him settle. Consequently there are three fielders on the boundary on the leg-side. It's a six-three leg-side field.

  19. Ind 226-5published at 55.0 overs

Jack Leach is flat, pancake flat, as he darts them in at Ravindra Jadeja. He's keeping pace on the ball before waiting for his moment to draw a false shot by tossing one up, you sense.

A couple of runs to the total in that over.

I guess the onus is now on Ben Stokes to find a Plan-B. Still about 27 overs to go before they get the second new ball.
