  1. In 224-5published at 54.0 overs

Fine piece of fielding from Ollie Pope at point to deny Ravindra Jadeja a certain boundary off Stuart Broad's third ball. The Surrey man dived full length and managed to scoop up the ball on the half volley.

Just the one run from that Broad over. Jack Leach preparing to replace Matthew Potts.

It's been typical Rishabh Pant. A mixture of the exotic, the powerful and the audacious.

  3. Ind 223-5published at 53.0 overs

Ben Stokes, dried sweat patches on his stained England cap, offers a few words in the ear of Matthew Potts. Plenty of encouragement from former England skipper Joe Root in the slips too.

Ravindra Jadeja flashes at Potts' first ball and it goes just wide of the England cordon and through the vacant third man region for four. Rishabh Pant on strike after Jadeja flicks the final ball off his legs for a couple.

    Stuart Broad poised to return.

Rishabh Pant's looking more nimble now. He's walking around with a bit more purpose.

  6. Ind 216-5published at 52.0 overs

James Anderson with a pretty decent ball first up but it's given short shrift by the mercurial Rishabh Pant, who is coming to the boil nicely.

Pant takes a couple of steps down the pitch and slaps Anderson back over his head for four. He grins to Ravindra Jadeja at the other end.

Pant, by the way, has four Test centuries one of which has come in England. He's up to 86 off 80 balls now.

  7. Ind 207-5published at 51.0 overs

It's doubtless been said before, but when Rishabh Pant plays proper cricket shots he's just as spellbindingly good to watch as the innovative freestyling.

Matthew Potts' first ball of the 51st over strays ever so slightly on to Pant's pads and he simply leans into the ball and with a roll of the wrists flicks it to boundary for four.

    Delicious.

England have got a bit of a problem. 50 overs done and the ball has refused to misbehave.

Sahil Oberoi: I don’t know about Rishabh, but I’m pretty sure I’ve done my hamstring watching him bat.

  10. Ind 202-5published at 50.0 overs

James Anderson brings a bit of order to proceedings with a maiden to Ravindra Jadeja. This partnership is worth 104 runs.

It's been the story of the summer hasn't it? Early wickets and then England frustrated by a middle-order partnership. It's the soft-ball that's helped the middle-lower order batters get in and it's been hard to get them out.

  12. Ind 202-5published at 49.0 overs

Ravindra Jadeja is beaten twice outside the off stump by Matthew Potts before he gets himself off strike.

Potts then sends down two short balls to Rishabh Pant who twice effortlessly swivels on his heels and pulls him away for back-to-back boundaries.

Durham seamer Potts is not happy with himself. Like Kevin the Teenager he tetchily grabs his cap and jumper off the umpire and stomps off to his fielding position.

Might just be because of that hamstring. He can't run down the wicket and that's why he's gone for the reverse-sweep. I think he's done a hammie.

This is the beauty of Rishabh Pant. Where do you bowl to him?

Having played some of he most beautiful orthodox cricket shots you could imagine, he shows his penchant for extravagant flamboyance with kind of reverse paddle to James Anderson's third ball. He had his hands cocked, ready to play the shot and lifts it over the wicketkeeper and slips for two.

England's greatest ever wicket-taker, you sense, will be snarling inside.

Pant is grimacing a little between balls, though. He's clearly struggling with an injury here.

He keeps holding that left hamstring. Who's going to keep wickets for you Deep? I think your wicket-keeper's done a hammie. That might stop him from being too quick between the wickets.

  16. Ind 186-5published at 43.0 overs

Rishabh Pant, chunky silver bracelet on his right wrist, is brimming and buzzing with intent. Yet, it's not all biff, bash, bosh and charging down the track.

To the second ball of Matthew Potts' over Pant punches clinically through point for four. Batsmanship.

At the end of the over Pant's clutching his hamstring, though. Has he tweaked something?

  19. Ind 186-5published at 45.2 overs

James Anderson, round the wicket, is a tad full and Ravindra Jadeja crunches it through the covers for four, holding the pose.

Next ball Jadeja is slow getting back to his ground so Anderson comes charging down the pitch and puts his hand on the back of the India batter as he looks to get to the ball.

Off the backfoot this time, little bit of width. Indian flags are waving.
