Hmmm, that's not good is it.
With that rather gloomy forecast it is time for me to take a break. I will leave you in the hands of Timothy Abraham to guide you through the afternoon session.

Lunch is due to end in 15 minutes but as I look out I see the covers are still on and the fourth-umpire is out there with his umbrella. So play is not starting anytime soon. They've still got to get all the water off the covers.

Dan: This is going to be a disaster isn't it? You can feel it fewer than 100 all out incoming.
A buoyant India pressed home their advantage by taking an early wicket. Jasprit Bumrah bowling Alex Lees for six to leave England 16-1 and in a bit of a hole before the rain arrived.
India were eventually all out for 416 when Mohammed Siraj was caught in the deep by Stuart Broad off the bowling of James Anderson.
It meant yet another five-fer for Anderson, but that has been rather lost in the carnage that immediately preceded it.

SAFC Pete: So we endured the worst ever over bowled in the history of Test cricket by Stuart Broad. Brainless and pathetic in equal measure. But will be repeated in 2nd innings, they won’t learn.
James Pratt: Dear England, please stop this short ball theory to tailenders. It doesn’t work. Sincerely, Every England fan
So with India 375-9 England will have been confident of keeping the tourists below 400. That was before one of the most extraordinary overs I have ever seen in Test cricket.
Jasprit Bumrah absolutely tore into Stuart Broad, launching the ball all over Edgbaston, with Broad not helping his cause with five wides and a no ball that was top edged for six.
35 runs came off the over in total - a new world record.
As we suspected they have decided to take an early lunch.
Fingers crossed this rain will clear in time for the afternoon session.
Ravindra Jadeja's fine innings came to a rather scruffy end when he went for a ugly heave and was clean bowled by James Anderson for 104.
Before the carnage, Stuart Broad made a piece of history when he removed Mohammed Shami for his 550th Test wicket to leave India on 371-8.
Little did Broad know what was to come later.
Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant turned the match around for India on day one and Jadeja followed his team-mate in reaching three figures with a fine cut through point.
A wonderful innings and equally wonderful celebration.
While the rain continues to fall let's have a look at some of the today's highlights.
India began the day on 338/7 with Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami at the crease. Shami showed some early intent with a couple of belting fours off Matthew Potts.

Covers being rolled out. The long-square covers that cover the practice pitches on either side. There are about eight or nine ground-staff out there. They might look to cover the bowlers' run-ups as well if the rain persists.

Apparently it's called a rippling sky. Bits and pieces about but it should clear out soon.
Alex Lees will be kicking himself. Just a few more minutes and he could have been safely back in the dressing room with his wicket still in tact.
Meanwhile the ground staff are busy laying out the covers across the practice pitches as the rain continues to fall. I wouldn't be surprised if an early lunch is taken.

He was in his delivery stride and Aleem Dar just said "Wait it might be rain".
Mohammed Shami was about to run in at the other end but Aleem Dar intervened at the last second.
It's raining at Edgbaston so off come the players and on come the covers.

David Hawkins: Forgive me if anyone else has already made the same observation, but it looks like England have been out-Baz Balled by India. I hope I’m wrong, but I can’t see this ending well for England.

We were talking about how he might have not faced someone like Bumrah. It just nips back and goes straight through bat and pad.
Lees b Bumrah 6 (Eng 16-1)
India strike early!
Jasprit Bumrah gets one to nip back into Alex Lees and the ball flies through the gate and clatters into the stumps.
