  1. 6 runs

Eng 284-9published at 14:54 British Summer Time 3 July 2022

Take that! Just a touch short and Potts swipes this across the line. No questions about where that ended up - over the fence!

  2. Eng 274-9published at 61 overs

    Potts 9, Anderson 6

It looks like 'Bazball' goes all the way down the order, right down to number 11.

James Anderson comes running down the pitch looking to slap one over cover - quite unsuccessfully though, I'm afraid. Goes without saying that every run is crucial here.

He's heaved it down the ground!

Oh, wait, it hasn't gone very far. But it is always fun to see tailenders playing a few shots.

Potts throws the kitchen sink and it goes way over to... mid-off...

    Not quite in the middle.

Jacob Wadsworth: An uncomfortable knock by Billings, never looked settled, makes the selection very questionable considering he's played just seven innings in three years for Kent.

Just got enough bat on it before it went crashing into leg stump! It's hostile bowling.

  7. Eng 271-9published at 60 overs

    Potts 8, Anderson 6

Useful runs for Jimmy and England as he gets a streaky boundary down to fine leg before managing to squirt one through gully for a couple more. He would have got an extra run if Potts hadn't sent him back to retain the strike. Poor Jimmy, he was hard done there.

All of a sudden Potts is now the senior batter. We'll have to wait and see how much 'senior batting' he can do.

Siraj is off in celebration thinking he'd got Anderson to nick one. Nobody else moved, most importantly the umpire.

    On we go.

Billings played nicely but he was the last recognised batter. India will go into their second innings with a substantial lead.

It's always a frustrating way to get out for a proper batter but you can see what Billings was trying to do, just open some gaps in the field and manoeuvre the ball down to third man.

    Billings b Siraj 36 (Eng 267-9)

He's chopped it on! It's a very soft dismissal in the end. Sam Billings was looking to run that down to third man but I think it nipped back in ever so slightly. Safe to assume India will claim a healthy first innings lead here unless Jimmy Anderson decides to roll the clock back and score another 80 odd.

Goodness me, where did that come from?! I can say with great certainty that is the best shot Matthew Potts has played in his Test career so far.

Potts is making a case for him to be promoted up the order next time around...

It was a touch full and on the pads from Shami and Potts creamed that through mid-wicket. A top-order batter would have been proud of that one.

I'm sure Billings at the other end would've been too.

  14. Eng 262-8published at 58.1 overs

Billings has gone for this alright! Shami is smacked high over the covers for a couple.

There was no-one in the deep so it was a fairly safe shot.

It has been yet another thrilling day of Test cricket but India have bowled beautifully. They are such a high class unit.

  16. Eng 260-8published at 58 overs

    Billings 33, Potts 4

Potts has managed to hold his own quite well so far as he digs a yorker out towards cover. Billings might even be happy to give him more of the strike if he keeps going like this.

England still trail by over a 150 though and they've got a very charged up Shami to contend with in this next over.

Wow. Yes, it is adventurous but it's also very smart cricket.

Mohammed Siraj angles it into the right hander and Sam Billings read it very well. It might look risky but for someone who plays so much white-ball cricket, it's a safe option.

Across the wicket and scooped away for four by Sam Billings! How quickly does 'Bazball' rub off on people? Two games, it seems...

Rishabh Pant had a big question mark over his wicketkeeping when he first came into the India side but he has been brilliant, especially here in England where it can be a lot tougher.

It's a streaky boundary to start for Matthew Potts, who gloves down to fine leg. He's no mug with the bat and I'm sure every England fan will be willing him to stick around with Billings.

A Superman-like take from Pant towards the end of that over as well saved a certain five-wides.
