That has jagged back. The replacement ball might be a bit firmer.
It pitched far outside off stump so you could see why he chose to leave. But that's been a great opening stand.
Crawley b Bumrah 46 (Eng 107-1)
Oh no he's let one go that he shouldn't have.
To be fair it was a good ball, pitched well outside off stump before nipping back in to clip the top of off.
It's a score for Zak Crawley but is it good enough to keep him in the side?

Whatever happens from here England have covered themselves in a little bit of glory today, getting themselves back into the game.
Lees 55, Crawley 46
It has gotten a little quieter over the past couple of overs but that isn't to say that this English pair is looking any less comfortable out there.
The Indian skipper is bringing himself on.

Now is the time to be a little bit clever before the tea interval, don't give India a wicket.

Don't want to jinx it, but I have a feeling Crawley's going to replicate that double century...
Will in London
Ugh. Here we go again.
The ball has refused to go through the '8' and Aleem Dar calls for the fourth umpire to bring out the briefcase that's got the spares.
Anybody keeping count? I gave up in the second hour of day one.
Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport chief cricket writer at Edgbaston
In terms of history, England are looking to complete the ninth highest successful chase in Test cricket, and their best.
The comparison I'm drawn to is West Indies 344-1 against England at Lord's in 1984, reached at more than five an over. Back then, that would have been as out of place as Bazball seems now.

There is a massive conga going on in the Hollies stand - everyone is enjoying themselves at Edgbaston this afternoon.
Target 378
Lees clips the last ball of the over off his hips and it trickles away fine for four.
Scoring runs seems to be so easy out there at the minute. I'm tempted to think even I could go out there and get a few...No, there's a reason why I'm here bringing you live updates instead of scoring runs.

This has been a brilliant opening partnership. It is sensational really in the circumstances.
Andy Zaltzman
BBC Test Match Special statistician
That is England's quickest ever century-opening stand in Test cricket. The previous was 20.3 overs - which happened twice.
Target 378
Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow might be feeling quite fidgety in the dressing room. They aren't used to waiting around this long before going out to bat. I'm sure they won't mind Alex Lees and Zak Crawley carrying on for a bit longer though.
Guess what, these two have put on 100 runs for the opening stand. When was the last time we saw two English openers do that?

Is three weeks into a new role too "new" to have a sick day for work tomorrow? Asking for a friend.
Nick, Taplow
Good to see England scoring at a rate to take out the 2nd new ball!

India really should think about getting Ashwin on.
Lees 53, Crawley 44
By far the best performance I've seen from England's openers in a while. I'm sure you'll agree and it has been very entertaining. Some Indian players group up for a chat, they need some inspiration here.

What a shot that was, wow! That wasn't a half-volley either. That was just a sumptuous, delicious shot.
DRIVEN handsomely through the covers again! Crawley can't help himself and neither can I. A sight for sore eyes that.
Phil Tufnell
Former England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
Oh, wow. That is a beauty. It was a lovely free flow on the bat.
He just looks more nimble at the crease and like he is trying to dominant the delivery.
