Jay Rad: India’s batting let them down today, Bumrah looking ragged/flat with the ball so far…all positive signs for England today that the momentum is shifting! A long way to go of course.

  2. Eng 69-0published at 14 overs

Loose from Crawley, he has been so disciplined and for the first time, he is enticed into a drive wide of off stump.

The England man is quickly back to what has worked for him so far in this innings, ignoring a similar delivery from Siraj that goes harmlessly through to Pant.

  3. Eng 68-0published at 13.1 overs

Short, wide and Lees helps himself to four more. Uppercut with ease by the England left-hander.

Not the start to the over that Siraj wanted.

Christian Thomas: If England win this run chase, is anyone ever going to elect to bat first against us again?

  5. Eng 64-0published at 13 overs

A much quieter over from Jadeja this time around, only two singles from it. The spinner is over the wicket to Crawley now, trying to use the rough outside the right-hander's leg stump.

There is nothing too untoward in that over, though.

Robbo555: It's extremely entertaining, very brave and ground-breaking. I would much rather see an England team go for it than meekly surrender as we have done so many times recently.

  7. Eng 62-0published at 12 overs

    Lees 40, Crawley 21

Another bowling change for India and it's Mohammed Siraj into the attack. Lees gives it three balls and skips down the track, but he can't beat the in-field this time.

Siraj drags his length back after that and it allows Lees to go back and guide the next delivery past gully for another boundary.

Lees really has been transformed under the leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum but he needs a big score to back it up. Is today the day?

Alex Lees is taking some pressure off Zak Crawley with the way he is playing.

  10. Eng 58-0published at 11 overs

    Target: 378

We've had the charge, we've had the reverse and now Lees brings out the slog-sweep. Down on one knee and clubbing the ball over mid-wicket, a couple of bounces for four.

The left-hander is determined to put Jadeja under pressure early on.

The 50 partnership came up off exactly nine overs. It was the fastest England have brought it up since the Mumbai Test in 2012. It is the fastest at home since the Bangladesh Test at Lord's in 2010.

  12. Eng 53-0published at 10 overs

A maiden? A maiden!? This isn't the BazBall I know.

It is a very good over from Shami, though, a really probing line just outside Crawley's off stump. Still no big drive or even a tentative push at it from the England opener, he seems confident in where his off stump is.

We need to see an identity parade out there. I want to see that man take his helmet off. Is it Alex Lees?

  15. 50 runs

    50 partnershippublished at 9 overs

    Eng 53-0

Lees has bookended the over with boundaries. Use of the feet to start and then a superbly executed reverse sweep to finish. It races to the fence and that brings up the fifty partnership in nine overs.

He didn't even have a look! He danced down the pitch and hit that really crisply.

    There is a statement.

  17. Eng 47-0published at 8.1 overs

    OK then, Alex!

First ball from the left-arm spinner and Lees is on the charge and thumps the ball back down the ground for four. Fair to say, he's not going to let him settle.

Former England batter on BBC Test Match Special

England have looked in control and convincing so far. They have played shots with intent to score runs.

  20. Eng 43-0published at 8 overs

A clip through mid-wicket adds a couple more to Crawley's total.

England have made a solid start and India want to change things up, here comes Jadeja. After the turn we saw Leach get, this could be very interesting.
