  1. Masood misses out on tonpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 8 April 2022

    Middlesex 401 v Derbyshire 143-3

    Sam Dalling
    BBC Radio London at Lord's

Well, that’s a turn-up for the books. Shan Masood looked in little trouble in making his way serenely to 91. But with a century - and a big one at that - there for the taking, came a rush of blood to the head.

Josh de Caires has been brought into the attack, largely to give the seamers a rest. But Masood and Wayne Madsen (20 not out) clearly decided to get after the part-time off-spinner.

It worked for a little bit before Masood danced past one and was stumped by John Simpson.

Credit to the bowler though – he saw his man coming and darted a slightly wider one. Huge wicket for Middlesex. Like, really big.

    Sibley b Topley 0 (Warwickshire 0-1 v Surrey 428-8 dec)

Oh Lawks! Dom Sibley has gone first ball.

The England opener pushes forward to a widish delivery from left-armer Reece Topley, a ball he did not have to play at - and the ball cannons back to remove his leg bail. Ouch!

A particularly painful way to go against his native county. Topley celebrates like he has just won the World Cup.

Skipper Will Rhodes comes in to join Rob Yates.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 8 April 2022

    Barker run out 18 (Hampshire 428 v Somerset 180)

Hampshire's first innings all over as Keith Barker is run out trying to scamper back for a quick two.

The throw from the third man boundary almost looked like a direct hit.

Hampshire with a lead of 248 and five overs to bowl at Somerset before the close.

  4. Surrey declare at Edgbastonpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 8 April 2022

    Surrey 428-8 dec v Warwickshire

Surrey declare in Birmingham, with Ben Foakes on 132, just nine short of his first-class best score.

But the team needs are more important - and that gives 12 overs for Dom Sibley and Rob Yates to face before the close of play.

A big test this for Sibley, who, by all reports, has done a lot of good work this winter since losing his England place.

Olly Hannon-Dalby (4-78) and Danny Briggs (3-84 from 39 overs) were the Bears' main two performers with the ball.

It might have been even better for OHD, who twice had Foakes had dropped in the slips, by Yates and skipper Will Rhodes, and misses out on a 'five-fer',

    Northants 226-7 Gloucestershire 223

Determined effort from Northamptonshire to take the lead against Gloucestershire.

It did not look too likely earlier at 129-7. But it only takes two to tango.

Just as James Bracey benefited from the prolonged company of Naseem Shah earlier for the visitors, Rob Keogh has also had a willing partner in Gareth Berg.

Keogh is on 86, Berg is on 48.

Somerset pick up a sixth Hampshire wicket but just an over too late for them to collect another bowling bonus point.

Ben Brown is caught at mid-wicket by Kasey Aldridge off the bowling of Ben Green as he tries to steer a short ball away.

Essex get their first breakthrough of the Kent reply.

Sam Cook pins Daniel Bell-Drummond back in his crease with a ball that straightens and takes his front pad.

Kent had made a decent start but Essex will be pleased to have got one relatively early.
