    Rossington lbw Overton 6 (Somerset 109 v Essex 141-7)

Craig Overton steams in again at Taunton and Adam Rossington is gone as he plays down the wrong line and is struck on the pads.

That is a five-for for the England pace bowler and this has been a wonderful effort to revive his team's chances. Essex's lead is 32.

    Madsen b Haines 111 (Derbyshire 383-3 v Sussex)

The huge Derbyshire partnership is ended as Wayne Madsen plays a loose cover drive and loses his middle stump, after batting for almost five and a half hours and facing 264 deliveries.

He put on 292 with Shan Masood - who is still there on 234 - which is a Derbyshire record partnership for any wicket against Sussex.

I'd go with Jimmy. None of the batsmen is worth his place in the side, Ben Stokes was part of the previous regime, and Jimmy's skillset is slightly broader than, ahem, Broad's, so he'll play more games.

    Luke in London

Only have a regular Test match player. Got to be good enough to hold a place not just because they are captain.. that cuts out Billings, Abell and Rory Burns.

    Barry in Leeds

  4. 150 runs

for Steven Croftpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 15 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 417-4

Steven Croft paces through the 140s with singles, working the ball into the gap to bring up a brilliant 150 from 325 balls.

Croft's highest score in this format is 156. He looks set to beat it.

    Durham 400-7 v Leicestershire

It's all going Durham' way at Chester-le-Street. The hosts have now reached the 400 mark with Ben Raine (34 not out) and Matty Potts (15 not out) starting to build yet another partnership.

Leicestershire thought they'd opened the door when they removed David Bedingham on 191 this morning. But Durham have fought back again.

    Critchley c Renshaw b Overton 7 (Somerset 109 v Essex 134-6)

Matt Critchley thinks about a cover drive, checks the stroke and Matt Renshaw dives to his left at second slip to take an excellent catch.

That is four Essex wickets lost this morning - two of them to Craig Overton, and this is certainly what Somerset supporters were hoping for following their side's batting collapse on day one.

Clive Woodbridge: Persuade Moeen Ali back.

Callum Campbell: Give it to Stuart Broad for the summer. The team is not in a good place and needs someone experienced in the short term.

  9. 50 runs

for Phil Saltpublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 15 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 403-4

A single for Phil Salt brings up a lightning-fast 50 off 62 balls.

The following over he strikes a four to bring up Lancashire's 400.

Kent look down and out this morning. They need wickets fast.

    Lawrence lbw Siddle 17 (Somerset 109 v Essex 133-5)

We spoke too soon by suggesting that Dan Lawrence was "settling in".

The England batsman departs at Taunton as he plays across the line to a ball from Peter Siddle and is leg-before.

It's Siddle's second wicket of the morning, having seen off Sir Alastair Cook at the start of play.

    Somerset 109 v Essex 133-4

Lucky, lucky...Matt Critchley attempts to punch a ball from Lewis Gregory away off the back foot and a streaky inside edge brings him four runs.

England's Dan Lawrence is settling in at the other end for Essex and has 15 not out as they look to build a sizeable first-innings lead at Taunton.

    Foakes b Abbott 45 (Surrey 340-3 v Hampshire)

Five away from a 35th First-class century, Ben Foakes is clean bowled by Kyle Abbot.

He looks frustrated as he walks back to the dressing room. There are runs to be scored on this pitch.

  13. 100 runs

for Wayne Madsenpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 15 April 2022

    Derbyshire 364-2 v Sussex

    Wayne MadsenImage source, Rex Features

Wayne Madsen likes batting against Sussex. He made 111 against the south-coast side last September and reaches three figures again by turning a ball from Jamie Atkins off his hip for four.

It's the seventh boundary of his innings - and 33rd first-class hundred of his career - and Madsen's partnership with Shan Masood, who is on 223, is now worth 273.

  14. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 15 April 2022

    Gloucestershire 227 v Yorkshire 58-2

Has Dawid Malan's involvement with the England Test team ended? Maybe not if he keeps playing strokes like that one.

Ajeet Dale overpitches at Bristol and the left-hander puts him away imperiously through the covers and moves into double figures with a single from the next delivery.

Adam Lyth has 26 at the other end as Yorkshire look to steady things following the early loss of George Hill and James Wharton.

  15. Postpublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 15 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 390-4

Some milestones around the corner for Lancashire. The Red Rose County are well on top and rapidly approaching 400.

Steven Croft is eying up a 150, he's on 143 not out. His batting partner Phil Salt is on 48 not out.

If there's no clear way forward then maybe England should look back and ahead at the same time. If Alastair Cook would be interested then I'd select him in a dual role as a Captain/coach with a world class coach in place.

Phil Salt is in great touch, he's raced to 43 from 52 balls and is sprinting towards his fifty.

At the other end, Steven Croft is going about his business on 129 not out. How many will he be fancying he can get today?

Will: I think Rory Burns but that's probably unpopular.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 15 April 2022

    Wharton b Higgins 5 (Gloucs 227, Yorkshire 48-2)

Another one pays the price for choosing not to make use of his bat.

Yorkshire lose their second wicket of the morning as James Wharton plays no shot to a ball from all-rounder Ryan Higgins which cuts back off the pitch and cleans him up.

Adam Lyth is 25 not out as he is joined in the middle by Dawid Malan.
