Kent opener Ben Compton scored 348 runs at an average of 174 in their first two games of the season.

His astonishing start has not been enough, though, to secure a first win for his side, who were beaten at home by Lancashire on Sunday despite the left-hander's century in each innings.

Can he keep his current form going?

He will not find it easy against a Hampshire team with one of the strongest seam attacks on the circuit, but Compton will again be on home turf as he looks for a fourth successive hundred.

There were plenty of runs scored in last week's games with 16 centuries, three of them doubles - all at Derby.

But it was a low-scoring game which provided the most exciting finish as Essex squeezed home on 84-9 against Somerset at Taunton.

Surrey also won in three days - against Hampshire - to move to the top of the Division One table, while Roses rivals Yorkshire and Lancashire were victorious in their opening matches of the season.

In Division Two, Glamorgan were the only winners - their first against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge since 1998.
