Jordan Clark ends an absorbing after noon at the Oval by having Peter Siddle caught behind by Ollie Pope for six with the day's final delivery

Somerset will start the final day 225 in front after declining from 132-2 to 158-7 in the space of 13 overs despite fifties by the Toms, Abell and Banton.

Ben Foakes had to go off after colliding with Jamie Overton in taking the catch to remove Banton, but deputy Pope made no mistake as Clark found the edge of Siddle's bat. Somerset's lead is 225.

Jamie Overton's final over of the day - but not THE final over of the day. Can he conjure up another wicket on Shakespeare's birthday? On this occasion the over is much ado about nothing as Josh Davey adds a couple of runs.

Jamie Overton to Peter Siddle. Five dot balls and a leg bye off the last. Three overs left.

Essex survive the final over of the day from Danny Briggs, with Simon Harmer adding a single to go to 60 not out.

It has been a fighting effort by the visitors, who started the day on 0-1 and uncertain whether Dan Lawrence would be able to bat because of injury.

Matt Critchley (49) and Adam Rossington (52) provided extended resistance before Lawrence came out with a runner and put on 81 with Harmer before he was caught behind off Craig Miles.

The visitors will start the final day 73 ahead with two wickets left.

Leics 146-6 trail Derbys by 172

Leicestershire lost Harry Swindells in the penultimate over of the day.

So it's looking like Derbyshire will wrap up a very impressive win in the morning.

Shan Masood eventually fell for 219 - his second consecutive double century - and Mattie McKiernan made 101 as Derbyshire extended their first innings to 531.

And Leicestershire have found nothing in reply.

Three wickets for Alex Thompson have put Derbyshire firmly on course for victory.

Another outstanding day for Lancashire and they are well on their way to victory.

Josh Bohannon made 231, his career best and the highest score by a Lancashire batsman against Gloucestershire.

Dane Vilas added 109 as Lancashire wracked up 556-7 - their highest total against Gloucestershire - before declaring at tea.

Needing to bat four sessions to save the game, Gloucestershire have lost their top three already and it will take a monumental effort to rescue a draw from here.

James Anderson took the opening wicket but Hasan Ali's yorker to rip out James Bracey was the highlight of the evening session.

Jamie Atkins was caught off Brett D'Oliveira for 17 in the previous over, leaving the visitors on 158-9.

Stewart's onslaught carried him to a 55-ball 50 but vost Josh Baker 28 from the over, but Susasex are still 36 runs short of making Worcestershire bat again.

Liam Dawson made a career-best 171 and Ben Brown 151 - sharing a county record fifth-wicket stand against Kent of 273 - before Hampshire eventually declared.

Kyle Abbott removed England's Zak Crawley and Daniel Bell-Drummond in the same over as Kent went from 51-0 to 65-3, but the dependable Compton had 37 at stumps, with the home side269 behind..

Northants 56-0 need 499 to beat Yorks

First hurdle vaulted for Northamptonshire as Ricardo Vasconcelos and Will Young see out 24 overs to the close.

A full day's batting to save the game tomorrow but the scale of Yorkshire's task is quite significant given the state of this wicket.

A great day for George Hill, 151 not out for the 21-year-old - his maiden first-class hundred.

Shane Snater doesn't mind throwing the bat and he middles a pull shot off Henry Brookes and clears backward square leg for six.

Essex now 59 in front, but they need a lot more than that if they are going to deny the 2021 champions a victory.

A spearing yorker from round the wicket takes out James Bracey's middle stump.

Just when Gloucestershire had calmed the situation slightly, they lose another wicket.

    Seven overs left tonight.

The Shire's chances of saving the game looking extremely slim.
