    Vilas c Hammond b Shaw 109 (Lancs 437-4 v Glos 252)

But the partnership is now over as Dane Vilas falls for a marvellous 109.

He tries to smear Josh Shaw over the off side but picks out Miles Hammond reaching above his head at cover.

203 the fourth-wicket stand and some blessed relief, of sorts, for Gloucestershire.

It's time to start getting the record books out at Old Trafford as this innings continues to plough forward.

The fourth-wicket stand passes 200 between Josh Bohannon and Dane Vilas.

Bohannon, 209 not out, is now on the page of highest scores for Lancashire.

He's now the highest score for Lancashire against Gloucestershire in Lancashire - going past Archie McLaren's 204 at Liverpool in 1903 to take the highest s

  3. Division Two updatepublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

It's a survival mission for Leicestershire and Sussex in their respective games.

Sussex are following on at Worcester and are 17-0 in the fifth, still 205 runs in arrears.

    Topley c Davies b Siddle 1 (Surrey 308 v Somerset 337)

Surrey achieve a third batting point and Jamie Overton celebrates by smashing Peter Siddle away over wide long-on for six.

That was a very powerful hit but Overton is left on 27 not out as Siddle has Reece Topley caught behind to finish with magnificent figures of 6-51.

The home side are just 29 behind, so this game is still very much in the balance.

Having lunched on an awkward 195, it doesn't take Ben Slater long to reach his a double-hundred.

Not perturbed by a flurry of wickets midway through the morning session he's found James Pattinson to help get him through to 200.

A maiden double ton in 415 balls with 19 fours and a six.

The Notts leads stretches over 200.

    Taylor c Davies b Siddle 9 (Surrey 298-9 v Somerset 337)

The perfect way to mark your 200th first-class match - Peter Siddle completes his 27th five-for with the wicket of James Taylor, who edges a straightforward catch to the keeper.

Surrey are 39 behind as number 11 Reece Topley comes to the crease.

    Warwickshire 385 v Essex 168 & 85-3

Adam Rossington re-takes his guard, then swipes a half-volley from spinner Danny Briggs away for four. Evasive action taken by silly point.

There's another Essex boundary in the next over as Matt Critchley sweetly times what is little more than a defensive push - he is 36 not out and Essex need another 132 to clear the arrears.

Yesterday he was out there with the bat. Today, Ben Stokes is doing a bit of bowling practice at the Riverside.

Wonder when the ECB will clear him for match action for Durham, who could do with him out there this afternoon against Notts.

The word from New Road is that Brett D'Oliveira has asked Sussex to follow-on after lunch, 222 in arrears.

Tom Haines and Cheteshwar Pujara made double hundreds to save Sussex from defeat by Derbyshire last week - can they do it again?

Nottinghamshire have tightened their grip on the game with Ben Slater batting through the morning session to reach lunch on 195 not out.

Lyndon Potts was bowled by Matty Potts for 108 after a partnership of 220 and Ben Raine has added three wickets since then.

But the lead is almost 200 and Peter Moores will be very happy with this batting effort following last week's home defeat by Glamorgan.

A difficult afternoon lies ahead for Leicestershire after Derbyshire pushed their total beyond 500 before Callum Parkinson ended their first innings with the wicket of Suranga Lakmal.

Mattie McKiernan reached a maiden first-class hundred for the visitors before falling for 101 to seamer Ed Barnes, whose figures of 5-101 were a career-best.

The lead is 318 and a draw will be the summit of Leicestershire's ambitions for the remainder of this game.

Cheteshwar Pujara again showed his quality, scoring his second hundred for his new county, but was finally undone by the pacey Dillon Pennington and was well caught at slip by Ed Pollock

The feeling in the press box is that Worcestershire will bat again, we’ll find out soon!

    Surrey 293-8 v Somerset 337

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

The much anticipated battle of the Overton giants didn't in the event produce any real fireworks, as the twins studiously avoided any histrionics - there was barely even any eye contact - and simply got on with the job.

It was Craig Overton's new ball partner, Peter Siddle, who achieved the crucial breakthroughs, having both Will Jacks and Sam Curran taken at second slip by Matt Renshaw, the latter a terrific grab low to his right.

With Jamie Overton going along nicely, it doesn't look as if there'll be much between the two sides on first innings.

    Kent 305 v Hampshire 457-4

A dominant session by Hampshire, with Liam Dawson and Ben Brown extending their fifth-wicket partnership to 182.

Dawson is 134 not out, with a six and 17 fours, and Brown is supporting him well on 89.

    The visitors lead by 152.

    Warwickshire 385 v Essex 168 & 74-3

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

No doubt that Warwickshire will be satisfied with their morning having removed Tom Westley and then, crucially, Alastair Cook just before lunch.

Both wickets came as a surprise as Essex had looked comfortable at the crease for most of the session but Will Rhodes got Westley with a bit of extra bounce and Oliver Hannon-Dalby first beat Cook outside his off stump (a rarity in itself) before getting him out next ball with a similar delivery.

Matt Critchley has been very positive in his unbeaten 27 but with Dan Lawrence unlikely to bat and the deficit still 143, Warwickshire will remain confident of victory.

  19. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Lancs 418-3 v Glos 252

This is what the best sides do, recognise when they have the initiative and ram it home.

That's just what Josh Bohannon and Dane Vilas have done this morning for Lancashire.

They've turned a slender overnight advantage into a big lead with a 129-run morning.

Gloucestershire knew they would be struggling after only posting 252 and goodness that is proving correct.

  20. Lunch at Wantage Roadpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Northants v Yorks 207-2 lead by 299

    An almost-perfect morning for Yorkshire.

They lost Adam Lyth but youngster George Hill and Dawid Malan have taken the lead to almost 300.

Malan went to fifty in the over before the interval in 67 balls with five fours.
