    Wheater c Rhodes b Brookes 13 (Warwickshire 385 v Essex 168 & 143-5)

    That's a surprise.

After Adam Wheater skies an attempted pull shot off Henry Brookes and is caught at mid-on, Dan Lawrence walks out to bat for Essex.

He has an injured hamstring and Matt Critchley will act as runner.

  2. wicket

WICKETSpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Lancs 486-6 v Glos 252

Two wickets in five balls at Old Trafford.

First Phil Salt falls for 21.

And then Josh Bohannon’s epic comes to and end as well.

He’s stumped for a mighty 231, a superb career-best effort that has given his side complete control of the game.

    Brown c Gilchrist b Muyeye 157 (Kent 305 v Hampshire 573-6)

Tawanda Muyeye has both Hampshire centurions.

Ben Brown follows Liam Dawson back to the pavilion after a reverse sweep ends up in the hands of Nathan Gilchrist.

It was the sort of shot that suggests a declaration my be under consideration. Brown faced 198 balls and hit 15 fours and was just six short of his highest first-class score.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Lammonby c Foakes b Clark 30 (Surrey 308 v Somerset 337 & 37-1)

That will be a big disappointment for Tom Lammonby, who leg glances and is caught down the leg-side by England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, diving to his right to take the ball two-handed.

It is Jordan Clark's fourth wicket of the game and Somerset lead by 66.

  5. Durham 'must apply themselves'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Durham 230 v Nottinghamshire 488-9 dec

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Notts have given themselves plenty of time to have a go at Durham after declaring mid-way through day three.

Their lead is 258 which is 28 more than Durham managed in their first innings and Ben Slater remained unbeaten on 225 when he was called off the pitch by the skipper at 2.40pm.

There are 52 overs left today and all of tomorrow but Durham also have the use of the heavy roller twice.

Having seen how easy the batting was for Notts, Durham must apply themselves. If they do, then I can see this finishing in a draw - but that depends on what's in the heads of the batsmen now.

  6. Postpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Somerset 337 & 35-0 v Surrey 308

Jamie Overton can whistle them through - as Somerset know only too well - but there isn't really a lot in this pitch for the Surrey paceman.

His latest over yields only a single, though, and Somerset are 64 ahead with all 10 wickets still standing.

  7. Notts declarepublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Durham 230 v Notts 488-9d

A lead of 258 is enough for Notts and they call in their first innings.

Ben Slater walks off unbeaten on 225 - a fabulous career-best effort.

Not entirely sure why they bothered to declare really - may as well have had a whack with the last wicket pair.

Over half the day's allocation still to be bowled and a huge task for Durham to rescue the game from here.

  8. 150 runs

for Ben Brownpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Kent 305 v Hampshire 555-5

A single to long leg and Ben Brown has 150 from 190 balls.

He isn't far short of a career-best score now and the visitors lead by 250.

  9. Postpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Warwickshire 385 v Essex 168 & 129-4

Adam Rossington appears to have decided that the best form of defence is attack and two fours in Henry Brookes' latest over take his boundary tally to six. Rossington is 26 not out out but Essex need another 88 to avoid an innings defeat at Edgbaston.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Dawson c Cox b Muyeye 171 (Kent 305 v Hampshire 548-5)

Finally, some relief for Kent as Liam Dawson hoists Tawanda Muyeye's off spin to Jordan Cox at deep mid-wicket.

It was a nothing ball but the Hampshire batter has nothing to reproach himself for as he walks off with a career-best score to his credit.

He batted for five and a quarter hours, faced 268 balls, hit three sixes and 20 fours and shared a stand of 273 with Ben Brown.

  11. Hants pair pile on the agonypublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Kent 305 v Hampshire 539-4

The Kent bowling attack is really suffering now at Canterbury.

There are two more boundaries for Liam Dawson in the latest Hamidullah Qadri over and the young spinner has 0-113 so far.

Dawson is 169 not out, equalling his highest score, Ben Brown has 135 and the lead is 234.

    Malan c Gay b Keogh 75 (Northants v Yorks 261-3 lead by 353)

No century for Dawid Malan as Yorkshire pile on their lead at Wantage Road.

He's gone to slog-sweep Rob Keogh and picked out deep midwicket.

George Hill still there on 84 and moving towards a maiden century.

  13. Postpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Surrey 308 v Somerset 337 & 18-0

Following a first-innings failure, Tom Lammonby already has three boundaries in this one, the latest pulled away off Jordan Clark.

Left-hander Lammonby's stance at the crease is reminiscent of Rory Burns, who is on the opposing team in this game.

  14. That's a recordpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Lancs 458-4 v Glos 252

Josh Bohannon now has the highest score for Lancashire against Gloucestershire.

His 30th four, this from Josh Shaw, sees him better the 220 made by Len Hopwood in 1934 and Frank Sugg in 1896, both at Bristol.

  15. wicket

    Critchley b Hannon-Dalby 49 (Warwickshire 385 v Essex 168 & 106-4)

Matt Critchley looks at the ground in horror as he is bowled through the gate by Oliver Hannon-Dalby just one run short of a half-century.

The middle stump is flat on the ground and Warwickshire are now looking in the mood to wrap this up pretty smartish.

  16. Sussex lose early wicketspublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Worcestershire 491 v Sussex 269 & 22-2

There will be no match-saving innings by Sussex skipper Tom Haines this week. He edges Joe Leach to the keeper on 10 and Tom Alsop follows in similar fashion from the next delivery.

Cheteshwar Pujara is back out there, having made 109 in Sussex's first innings and they need 200 more to avoid an innings defeat.

  17. 150 runs

for Liam Dawsonpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Kent 305 v Hampshire 502-4

Hampshire are really stepping on it now and Liam Dawson square cuts for four to take the total past 500 and reach 150 off 253 balls. It's the 18th boundary of his innings and he has also hit two sixes.

He and Ben Brown have now put on 227 - beating the previous Hampshire fifth-wicket record stand against Kent of 219 by Philip Mead and Harold Day, just a couple of months short of exactly 100 years ago.

  18. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Warwickshire 385 v Essex 168 & 101-3

Matt Critchley strikes a low full toss back past the right hand of Will Rhodes for four. Another boundary ends the over - this one is a very fortunate inside edge down to fine leg.

Critchley is 44 not out and Essex are 116 behind.

  19. Postpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 23 April 2022
