Two wickets for Tom Taylor but Essex now lead Northamptonshire by 36 runs, with still five wickets remaining.

Paul Walter looks well set on 79 - and Northants may have their work cut out if they are to claim a first County Championship Division One win since August 2013.

Century for Wayne Madsenpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Derbyshire 368 & 286-2, Glamorgan 387

A second Derbyshire centurion of the morning as Wayne Madsen follows Brooke Guest to three figures.

Madsen is now on 102, his 34th first-class century, Guest is on 106 - and the pair have so far put on a handy 213 for the third wicket.

This is really good news for England fans.

Alex Lees goes to his second century in three innings this season following his unbeaten 182 against Glamorgan last time out.

Have England finally found an opener to stick in the team?

    Khushi c McManus b Taylor 30 (Essex 227-5)

Suddenly a little hope for Northants as Tom Taylor gets his second wicket of the morning, as he finds the edge, Lewis McManus takes the catch and Feroze Khushi is gone for 30.

It ends a stand of 69 with Paul Walter, who remains on 74.

New man in is Adam Wheater.

  8. Record stand on?published at 12:44 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Sussex 538 v Durham 223 & 265-0

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

According to my notes Durham's best Championship opening stand is 314 v Notts when they won the title in 2009.

Michael Di Venuto (219) and Kyle Coetzer (107) were the batters.

It was also their highest total at 648-5 declared. Today they're 265-0 which must be their best against Sussex.

  9. 150 runs

for Dicksonpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Sussex 538 v Durham 223 & 255-0

The big scores for batters keep on coming.

Durham opener Sean Dickson is the latest to go past 150 as his gargantuan opening stand with Alex Lees continues to grow.

England opener Lees is in the 90s.

WICKETpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Compton c Lyth b Hill 93 (Yorkshire 571 v Kent 291 & 182-5)

    HUGE moment in this match.

George Hill surprises Ben Compton with a bit of extra bounce and the ball loops off the left-hander's edge to Adam Lyth at second slip.

One of the country's in-form batters is on his way.

  11. 100 runs

Century for Brooke Guestpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Derbyshire 368 & 261-2, Glamorgan 387

Derbyshire wicket-keeper Brooke Guest reaches his third first-class century and second of this match!

An array of attacking shots have taken him to 102, edging him ahead of Wayne Madsen, who is still there on 83, as the pair close in on a double-century stand.

    Yorkshire 571 v Kent 291 & 170-4

    Ben ComptonImage source, Getty Images

    129, 104*, 115, 27, 89, 3 and now 84*.

Those are Kent opener Ben Compton's scores this season.

He's been in the middle for 210 balls and four and a half hours this time around. Yorkshire will be desperate to shift him before lunch.

  13. Postpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Northants 390, Essex 193 & 202-4

Essex move into the lead, having wiped out the overnight deficit - and this game suddenly looks like it might be heading for a draw.

Paul Walter is in 64 and Feroze Khushi is on 17.

  14. Guest and Madsen in good touchpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Derbyshire 368 & 220-2, Glamorgan 387

An hour gone at Derby today, 50 runs added and no wickets.

Derbyshire lead Glamorgan by 202 runs with eight wickets remaining.

Wayne Madsen has moved on to 76. Brooke Guest is not far behind on 71, having reached his fourth first-class half-century.

On two of the three previous occasions, he has gone on to reach three figures.

Will there be a declaration at some stage? Or is the weather going to have the final word?

WICKETpublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Cox b Thompson 21 (Yorkshire 571 v Kent 291 & 166-4)

    Bowled him!

Jordan Thompson gets a ball to jag back in sharply to Jordan Cox and the Kent batter plays all around it. It was an absolute jaffa from the Yorkshire paceman.

Yorkshire will feel they have a real chance of victory now.

  16. Commentary from Headingleypublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Yorkshire 571 v Kent 291 & 151-3

BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

With no play at the Ageas Bowl between Hampshire and Lancashire, commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra has switched to Headingley.

Jordan Cox is off to a bit of a flier for Kent, hitting three early boundaries.

  17. 200 runs

opening standpublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Sussex 538 v Durham 223 & 204-0

The partnership between Durham openers Alex Lees and Sean Dickson keeps on growing at Hove.

They're still some way short of the record first-wicket partnership for the county - the unbroken 334 put on by Stewart Hutton and Mike Roseberry against Oxford University in 1996, but it's a flat pitch!

  18. 50 runs

for Paul Walterpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Northants 390, Essex 193 & 174-4

Paul Walter brings up his half-century for Essex at Chelmsford.

It's only the sixth of his first-class career.

That is rapidly followed by Feroze Khushi getting off the mark with a boundary. He made only 9 in the first innings on his County Championship debut - and will be looking to improve on that.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 1 May 2022

    Critchley c Berg b Taylor 47 (Essex 158-4 v Northants)

First strike of the day for Northants as Matt Critchley departs, holing out to Gareth Berg at extra cover off Tom Taylor for 47, just after he and Paul Walter had posted a century partnership.

    New man is Feroze Khushi.

Essex still trail the visitors by 39. Are promoted Northants scenting a first win of the season?
