If you are ever lucky enough to take the wicket of one of the best batsmen in the world - this photo shows what it might mean to you.

You can see how Warwickshire's Henry Brookes felt after dismissing Joe Root at Headingley, but the champions are on the back foot with two days remaining against Yorkshire, thanks mainly to Adam Lyth's unbeaten 118.

Azhar Ali made 202 not out for Worcestershire and Dan Lawrence, Ben Compton and Jack Haynes also shone with the bat on day two of our seven games, while Somerset's Craig Overton claimed his 400th first-class wicket.

Join us again tomorrow for full coverage of the third day's play.

    Northamptonshire 21-2 v Kent 519-9 dec

Following a single by Ricardo Vasconcelos, Matt Kelly blocks out the final four deliveries of a tough day for Northants.

They will start day three 498 runs in arrears after Jack Leaning and Grant Stewart added half-centuries of Ben Compton's 140 for Kent.

Stewart hit five sixes and then took the wicket of Ben Curran and they will now hope for two days of decent weather to try and secure their first Championship win of the season.

  4. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Worcestershire 456-3 v Leicestershire 148

At the end of the over which saw Azhar Ali reach his double century, play id done for the day at Worcester.

The home side lead by 308 and the main question now is how wide do they want that lead to be before declaring.

Azhar is 202 not out, Brett D'Oliveira is on 52 and we should also mention Jack Haynes' 127 - his third century in as many matches.

  5. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Somerset 211 v Hampshire 144-5

A very stop-start day for both sides at Taunton.

Ian Holland and Nick Gubbins batted well in tricky conditions for Hampshire but three Craig Overton wickets and that dismissal of Dawson right at the end there have brought Somerset back into things.

This is set up to be a fascinating last two days.

    Dawson lbw b Gregory 8 (Somerset 211 v Hampshire 144-5)

What an end to the day at Taunton!

Liam Dawson is trapped plumb in front by Lewis Gregory on what turns out to be the final ball of the day.

Dawson is devastated, Somerset are cock-a-hoop.

  7. wicket

Gay lbw Stevens 5 (Northants 20-2 v Kent 519-9 dec)

Kent finish an excellent day on a high as Darren Stevens has Emilio Gay leg-before in the penultimate over. He wasn't too thrilled by that decision.

Matt Kelly is sent out as nightwatchman - wonder if he is still smarting after returning figures of 2-116 in Kent's first innings.

  8. Close of play at Lord'spublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Middlesex 88-2 v Durham 350

As expected, no more play today at HQ.

Those two late wickets, including Ben Stokes' first of the summer, will make dinner a bit more pleasurable for Durham after Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman had begun well.

Liam Trevaskis' earlier unbeaten 80 was the highlight of the North East county's first innings score.

    Worcs 455-3 v Leicestershire 148

    Azhar AliImage source, Rex Features

    There it is.

OK, we had a delayed start at New Road, but Azhar Ali has ground Leicestershire down with some superb batting.

His double century took 328 balls and the boundary through the covers off Rehan Ahmed which brought it up was the 18th of his innings - and he has hit a six as well.

Still a way off for a personal best, though - Azhar has made an unbeaten 302 in the first-class game.

    Northants 16-1 v Kent 519-9 dec

Maiden by Darren Stevens follows maiden by Matt Quinn.

Just three overs left now - will Northants see it through to stumps without further damage?

    Somerset 211 v Hampshire 137-4

Ben Brown gets a thick edge down through the gully area for four welcome runs.

He and Liam Dawson are really battling here.

Next ball, Brown gets another edge which bounces through the slips for another four.

And again, a third ball in the over draws a false shot but gives up a boundary.

A fourth ball of the over goes to the fence. Brown up to 17.

16 good runs for Hampshire. The deficit is down to 74.

  12. 50 runs

for Brett D'Oliveirapublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Worcs 444-3 v Leics 148

A single off Callum Parkinson takes Worcestershire's captain to an 86-ball half-century - his first since scoring 169 not out against Sussex last month.

He and Azhar Ali - who is 193 not out - have now added 110 for the fourth wicket. Will the Pakistan batter reach 200 before the close?

  13. Valuable mini session for the Cider Boyspublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Somerset 211 v Hampshire 121-4

These three wickets for Somerset late in the day have brought them right back into the game.

Four overs to go. One more Hampshire wicket and they will go to bed very happy indeed.

  14. Postpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Northants 15-1 v Kent 519-9 dec

Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay are clinging on for Northants following the loss of Ben Curran in the third over of their innings.

There are six more overs to go - and then six more sessions on days three and four if they are to escape from this game with a draw.

  15. Bad light stops play at Lord'spublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Middlesex 88-2 v Durham 350

Ten minutes or so ago, Middlesex were sitting pretty.

Now they are going off for bad light with two men back in the hutch.

  16. 6 runs

Postpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Worcs 431-3 v Leics 148

The torment continues for Leicestershire as Brett D'Oliveira and Azhar Ali find the boundary in the same Rehan Ahmed over - punishing a full toss and long hop by the youngster.

In the next over, Azhar comes down the track and lofts Callum Parkinson over long-on for six before D'Oliveira clips the left-armer to the mid-wicket boundary.

Azhar is 186 not out, his captain has 43 and there are seven overs to go.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Bamber b Rushworth 0 (Middlesex 87-2 v Durham 350)

Night watchman Ethan Bamber lasts two balls!

But in fairness, he gets an absolute beauty from Chris Rushworth, which nips in down the slope and strikes the poles.

That would have seen off plenty of top order players.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Stoneman c Petersen b Stokes 41 (Middlesex 86-1 v Durham 350)

Ben Stokes has his first wicket of the summer!

Mark Stoneman had hit two balls of his first over for four, but when he goes for a third with a flashing drive, his edge flies to Keegan Petersen at first slip.

Some players just can't help but make things happen, can they?

  19. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Nottinghamshire 334-7 v Derbyshire 260

The bad light fails to improve and that is it for the day, with Notts 74 runs ahead after some solid batting right down the order.

Ben Duckett led the way with 86, before being bowled by Alex Thomson, while Sam Conners claimed 3-80 for Derbyshire to take his seasonal wickets tally to 24.

Liam Patterson-White is 34 not out and will be looking to stretch the Notts lead on the third morning with help from the tail.

  20. England captain to bowlpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Middlesex 78-0 v Durham 350

With Durham searching for a first wicket, Ben Stokes has been thrown the ball.

Can the new England skipper make something happen late on day two for his county?
